Brookdale

I would recommend Brookdale. It's a quiet and friendly community suited well for my family member. We picked this community because of the cleanliness, care services & staff.

Brookdale is a good fit for my husband because all of the staff from office personnel to kitchen to medical staff are all very caring individuals who get to know each resident. They are always polite and caring to me every time I visit. They have been helpful every time I ask for help.

They are having trouble with food and the kitchen. They are offering 2 choices and sometimes they run out before everyone gets fed. We are sitting in the dining area for an hour and a half and still not fed. People are not happy. The nurses are having to help serve. I have been here for a month and I am still waiting for my mirrors to be hung. I know they are busy with new people moving in , but I have put in 2 work orders and nothing. I know all this sounds petty, so I apologize for that.

We moved mom out of Brookdale Kenmore last month. They only take private pay, and she was paying a premium for services they did not provide. Promised two showers a week, got none. I had to drive over and bathe her.

There is a huge turnover of staff but our loved one seems to be feeling more comfortable there

The care was apparent when you first start working with them. We liked the discount that they gave us. My Dad is saving a lot. The food is better than where he used to live. He's starting to get out more in the community.

I know my mom is more comfortable in a smaller group of people. She has many new friends and seems pretty happy here. The staff are attentive and helpful with plenty of extra activities. Good food and nice grounds.

So far the staff has been wonderful and responsive to my Aunts needs. The place is very well maintained & clean. It is hard to determine how things are going because I live out of state. My Aunt isn’t great at articulating things going on due to her Dementia. It took a little while to get in contact with nursing staff to ask for feedback or express my concerns but I understand there are many people they tend to. With that said my overall experience has been pretty positive.

When my sister and I toured the facility we were instantly impressed with it . I explained that my mom’s biggest challenge was getting up but once she’s up she can walk well. I asked if they could help her get up if she needs it and they said yes . I asked question to more than one person . She still has very good cognitive ability and still pays her bills. She also manages her own medication so therefore she realty doesn’t qualify for skilled nursing . However , once we moved her in she had trouble getting up and they told her that they couldn’t help her . So this has been a challenge, we did get her a cushion for her chair but it’s still a struggle. So that was disappointing. She loves her caregivers and thinks they are great people but she says that the food isn’t very good and she has lost weight .

The caregivers are very kind and attentive. Even the activity director [name removed] does special things for the residents. She really goes above and beyond. It is small and intimate so your loved one won’t get lost in the crowd. They worked with us on monthly rate and they are one of the few places that take Medicade pay down if needed. It’s not as fancy as some places but it’s neat and clean. The food is good in my mom’s opinion. My suggestion is that you get established with their doctor immediately because it will make your life easier as far as doctor appointments and prescription refills. Be careful, every service is an up charge. Laundry is included but most other services such as escort service to and from meals is additional. Always ask. I suggested signs or colored floor tape to help new residents find their way around and after over a month I have not heard back so I will follow up. Another suggestion…always follow up. Don’t leave anything to chance. Visit frequently.

The facility in the memory care wing is a little dated but the level of care from the staff makes up for it. I feel like they truly love my Mom. It’s a great value and Mom enjoys the food. The nurses and medical team seem to be attentive to her needs as well.

Personally, I think my experience (and my mom) is better than average because I go over there almost every day and spent a lot of time especially in the beginning making sure everything was done that was supposed to be done and let them know when it wasn't. I would suggest that a family member or friend get to know the staff (at least the ones in charge) and communicate any issues the resident is having. The staff I have dealt with have been very supportive and responsive. I know not everyone has someone that could be there frequently to check on things, but I know it makes a difference .

The staff at Brookdale Camino del Sol is very friendly, there are lots of activities, and the quality of care is good. It does seem very expensive, way more than what insurance covers.

It's a very nice facility. The coordinator and faculty are very helpful and nice. They take care of all their needs

They have a high turnover especially in Dining so Dad says the meals are hit and miss. Same with most other positions. It's always someone new when I visit for lots of positions in nursing care. But they are always very kind and helpful. I wish they paid more so folks would stick around. They do keep the place clean and take good care of Dad. He's happy and only complains when a meal is particularly bad. The front desk ladies are wonderful and so friendly. [name removed] in the office is so easy to work with. The new nurse is very kind and likable. I know it's hard for them to keep people but the ones they have are great.

What we like the most about Brookdale Murrysville is the responsiveness of the staff as well as the great communication regarding any health concerns and add items like hair dresser is very convenient

They could have more help, but that is everywhere. The staff at Brookdale College Square is so good and helpful. They treat all the residents with love.

The staff was great with my mom. She was there for a short time, but the time she was the staff was great with her. They came to help every time we called no matter what time it was. They helped a lot during a rough time for our family.

Our loved one seems to be happy there, and that is what is important. Oh yes, I would recommend this community to other families based on the experience we have had so far. I know a handful of people whose parents live at a Brookdale.
