Brookdale

People are friendly. I let my mom choose. My mom loves the place.

It’s only been 2 months so I am a little hesitant/cautious about writing a review. To me the real review would come after 12 months and all the new is worn off from both sides. With that said, our experience has been very positive so far. Our mom has turned out to be quite a challenge due to some health issues. Staff has remained very kind, helpful and patient with her to this point. They communicate well with me and my siblings and have been very kind and patient with us as we can be challenging also. There seems to be a family atmosphere around the staff. Whatever it takes seems to be the motto. I have seen the Executive Director and the head nurse pitch in to serve lunch, clean up etc. it seems at times they are stretched thin, but still have been timely in their response to mom’s needs. The facility is always clean and very cozy. It is a small facility which was one of the reasons we chose Brookdale. The food has been very good with very generous portions.

I gave it a 4 star rating because of daddy’s bathroom. I was under the impression that they would be cleaning his room. It’s very dusty or was. I dusted for him. The bathroom was a hot mess! On the other hand dad says that he likes living the! All in all that is what matters!

The facility is a little dated- which is slowly being addressed. Rooms could use a little refresh, especially in the bathrooms. Staff is great and makes up for what the building lacks. My parents have no complaints on the food, which is a big plus. They also have unusual options for an assisted facility, like a woodshop. I wish they had more outdoor spaces and gardens for my parents to explore. One of the hardest aspect of moving into an assisted living facility is the loss of a yard, garden, or outdoor space. Adding that would make this a top facility.

The marketing rep and staff who we met when we signed up, said a bunch of things that weren't quite the way it's been. But we've adjusted

The staff is very caring and some go out of their way to make sure my mom is well taken care of. They are very receptive to concerns and handle things quickly to improve the situation. I truly appreciate the service you provided when I had to find my mom a place quickly. I have recommended you to several friends!

[name removed] has issues with his right forearm elbow and right shoulder and the doctor gave him exercises to do and a stretch band that he can do by himself but nobody in the facility knows where his yellow stretch band is and I think there's only one caregiver that helps him with his exercises Because he still really sore and stiff and if he were able to have his exercises, he would not be. I have an appointment for him for a recheck [date removed] and I'll probably have to cancel it because he's not getting better because he's not using his arm.

The staff is caring and friendly. The facility is nice and well kept.

Since my wife was only there for about 2 weeks it is difficult to fully evaluate the services provided. She did not use the food service or activities. The staff was friendly and courteous. Facility very clean. I am pleased that she was there for a short time.

The staff here is extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and compassionate. They helped guide me through the entire process and gave great support

I have been pleased with the care they are providing my Mom. I do feel as though they maybe they oversold a little when I was trying to decide which location I was going with. We have had to add additional services to Moms care which has increased the price. All in all we are happy and most importantly Mom is happy. Best of all A place for Mom was extremely helpful

As with any facility, where a loved one is placed, they are going to be issues that arise. This was a huge change for our family. For the most part, the staff has been responsive. It does seem that there’s oftennot enough staff to meet needs of every person although they do try. We had some issues with some supplies, but that was remedied fairly quickly. Overall, we are happy.

Overall Brookdale is a wonderful facility. The staff are all very friendly and genuinely care about the residents. My mother needed complete care for all of her needs. They did a good job and I think this is a better option for more independent folks. All the residents I met seemed very happy being there. It is nice they allow dogs which always adds a level of joy.

Always stay on top of anything you need or what done for your family member- they are very busy doing the same things for other residents! Be their advocate! We moved from another Senior Living facility, that had just gotten too expensive for us to afford! A Place for Mom help us find this Brookdale. We looked at several others and found this one to be more personal with the needs that my mother-in-law had! They treated us as if they were not just running a business! My mother-in-law's needs changed over the period of time she was there and they worked with us to accommodate those needs! She passed away there [date removed].

[name removed] said she was at 5 for kidney failure she was not. [name removed] did not want to send medical records to primary care and made a big deal. They were giving meds in such a way that would cause dizziness, but I had to learn that on my own after I left. They did nothing to get her out of wheel chair. [name removed] over nurses there allowed her to stay on number 3 oxygen. Even after I told her that she wasn't supposed to be on that high of a level after hospital. The pulmonologist confirmed that she wasn't supposed to be on that high level of oxygen after the 1st appointment that [name removed] failed to make, though she was asked to do it. She really spoiled the rest of the experience for us and is the one really negative there. The med techs were great, but every time I had any contact with [name removed], she either wasn't right, not doing her job, or outright sabotaging Moms care! Food is a 5, but Mom should have been on a salt free diet and wasn't. Due to that, she had several instances and hospital stays. Goes back to [name removed] Value for the money is another 3. I never knew what to expect payment wise. The administrator there settled a lot of issues there for me, and overall, it was a really good experience, but that was another area that was frustrating. The sales office did a poor job of explaining costs and although we moved Mom there was little movement in cost that I could see. Again, she did a poor job explaining costs, but she was nice person. Overall, and for the type of facility, they still really did a great job

A couple things. Most the staff is great. There are a few exceptions that I noticed and experienced while I visited my wife there. 1. Some younger staff didn't make a lot of effort in taking immediate care of some residents that ended up with the residents urinating in the cloth recliner chair and love seat. Each time I heard the resident saying they had to go to the restroom and the aids kept putting them off because they were talking to each other about unrelated work stuff. When my wifes condition with her Alzheimer's became worse she wouldn't eat. When I came to visit they said she never eats much , when fact she stopped eating for 4-5 days. I discovered they were sedating her every time she became restless and would start to call out for someone of me when I wasn't around. (A close staff member told me this) only after my wife was admitted to the hospital as a medical emergency. Another item was that a doctor ordered a massive amount of prescriptions not going through the pharmacy that I had directed the facility to use because of insurance issues. And the facility doctor did not inform me of the medical issues he/she was experiencing with my wife. Basically not following the directives I had signed when [name removed] was admitted to the facility only a month previous to her admittance. I was stuck fighting a pharmacy bill for medications that were ordered but that [name removed] never used because she had passed away before she could use them. I don't know what happened to the large amount of medications that were ordered. From what I know it was 3 months worth of various meds. A bill of $[removed] which I would not pay for. And argued over up until the end of April. 9 months after my wife's passing. The facility is still a good place. Just a few bad actors that didn't follow through with keeping the family informed of what was going on.

I like that Brookdale is all-inclusive. There are very few things for which they charge extra. Also, having medical professionals that come to the facility is great. Also, forgot to mention the monthly memory care support group. Great to learn and talk to others that are going through a similar journey with their loved ones

Their ability to keep family member from regular assisted to enhanced and most likely never have to go to nursing. You can just add on more and more care and they don't have to move.

My only other feedback is to be aware that each additional service is an additional charge/fee. And, that Brookdale is best suited for ambulatory elders who only require regularly scheduled checkups with doctors that come to Brookdale like[ name removed]APRN with Murray-Calloway Co Hospital. She is very good and highly recommended. My sister just had too many health & mental issues to be at Brookdale. Thanks

Leadership Staff turned over within one month of being there. It's caused some problems with communication. Additionally, billing has been challenging as the corporate office and the Tarpon Springs office don't agree on what is due and when. This has resulted in my Dad being sent bills that he doesn't owe on. This is a concern as he has some confusion and I worry about him paying bills that don't actually need to be paid. It is still not resolved. Leaders have also given my Dad an eviction notice due to a wound that developed. I have had zero assistance with finding next steps or if the eviction will really occur. It's incredibly stressful and I truly don't know what I will do. I would like to say that [name removed] was very helpful in the move in process and has always responded quickly to my needs. He also visited my Dad a few times before he moved in which was very nice.
