Brookdale

I'll give it a 4 across the board. She's been there 12 months and there have been good times and bad but for the most part we are satisfied. Yes, I would recommend this community to other families based on the experience.

What services are considered included and which are provided for an extra charge would be helpful to know up front.

My Church member's experience was a 4 due to her unwilling being moved from her home. She would not bathe or change clothes for days. When I reported to Administer she informed me that she needed a treatment plan for that. My sister and I would clean her up when we visited. One of the nurses took an interest in her and cleaned her up on her shift. When she was moved to the Memory Care Building she was clean every day.

The staff is hardworking and very friendly. They are understaffed and need more help. Yes we would recommend this community to other families based on the experience so far.

Staff is very friendly and knows the residents. The building is currently being renovated. I would recommend Brookdale, I feel it's been a positive move for my mom.

Awesome staff just needed the front door locked so had to leave for another facility. The food matching up what goes together meat and veggies activities mother in law really couldn't participate finding something she could participate with. A nice place very helpful!!

Just to visit often to make sure the level of care and staff standards stay high, as sometimes staff does not take residents seriously or are not as responsive as they should be sometimes. The food needs a huge improvement! It is dry, tasteless, and not a good variety. If people want more to eat or have a special request on their food they are told no. That was the biggest complaint I heard from many residents. I often went to have meals with dad. Speaking from first hand experience I agree with the complaints. Dad lost 30 lbs in the first 2 months of living there. My dad was not there long only 4 months before he passed. For the most part it was over all a fairly good experience but I will say if he was still with us I would have found a better facility.

Dining room dishes glasses Utensils often dirty / lipstick. PT referral for dad never processed /? Breakdown x 1 month . What's standard? Admin - listened to mom w feedback . No major changes done. Recommend you reach out to the head admin there to get updates. Previous person just left/ corporate staff filling in / meeting w residents w all issues / major turnover kitchen crew....It's a gorgeous campus - and had potential to be highly rated - but must fix these issues

This is a beautiful facility, but, no resident wants to be there. The employees are wonderful and, very kind to residents and visitors. The facility provides a room and meals, and nothing else. Meaning furniture. Bedding, clothing, personal items, and medications. Residents get two showers per week, and laundry services are provided if you choose. You must sign a contract if you place your loved one there, with very strict. rules. Read them carefully! There is an annual increase in rent as well. Very $$$$.

They have an excellent library, plenty of activities for people to do or not to do depending on their preference. Great walking paths and a putting green that sometimes isn't maintained.

Staff is great but the food is not great. Nurses are very good. I would recommend it. They take good care of my husband.

The place is very welcoming for everyone, including visiting family. If their loved one is unable to drive somewhere, they do have a transport bus that can take them places. They are a bit understaffed for the assisted side. The nurses that have been there for longer are awesome but unfortunately a lot of new ones that come in tend to leave right away.

The facility was homey and the staff was caring and liked her. They weren't allowed to use chair or bed alarms and then they said she needed one on one care that they would not provide. I had to pay extra for a private service to sit with her and then I had 30 days to move her elsewhere. $[removed] an hour additional for them to sit with her. As with any place items went missing but were found eventually. She did fall several times and was taken to the hospital when necessary with no injuries.

Unlike some retirement/senior living facilities, brookdale of westlake offers assistance to residents if needed, including transport to meals, check-ins, and other various services that offer peace of mind

Very limited activity got residents. Staff is friendly but not enough of them, especially medical. Medicine can only be distributed between 7 am to 7 pm. Have to get someone to let you in and let you leave which is very inconvenient for myself and staff. They are however very good with mom..just not enough staff and of the right roles.

My mom's transition has been a journey. It's taken a while to for us all to understand how things and people work

The staff was EXTREMELY helpful and supportive in the whole process. This placement happened in less than 72 hours. The WHOLE staff bent over backwards to get the room ready for move-in and in assisting us with the transition. The only reason the rating was not a 5, when the staff found out mom would be moving to a facility closer to family, they basically just took care of day-to-day needs for her and did not give the extra attention/rehab to improve her situation. After just one week at Brookdale, they stated mom did not need to be in Memory Care and could be moved to Personal Care. A few days later we gave notice mom would be leaving and they decided to leave her in Memory Care and not move her into the other care level even though she stayed another 30 days at the community. We can understand the effort involved in changing rooms, but at a minimum we would have expected her to be able to spend daily time interacting with the Personal Care residents. [name removed] as the Program Director, does an AWESOME job giving personal attention to the residents on a daily basis and highly encouraged their engagement in community activities. [name removed] as the Executive Director and head on-site Medical Manager took care to ensure all health needs were taken care of. She went over and above to address any concerns we raised. Overall, we were VERY happy, just a little disappointed they couldn't get mom time in the Personal Care before she left.

Memory care section seems well organized and caring. Only big concern is lost laundry. Room sizes vary depending on memory care patient needs and mobility. Meals are flexible, in light of patient limitations.

Staff are extremely helpful and friendly.

In fairness, my father was only there a week. I can tell you what it was like for that week seven and eight are questionable as he wasn't there long enough for me to say the activities were great and the money that was being spent was worth it They answered questions with information versus giving me websites and or catalogs. Whatever staff I requested to meet, they called them and I was able to speak to them directly versus waiting for a phone call from someone when I was there to look at Brookdale in West Hartford. The staff was there.
