Brookdale

Overall rating of 4 but be prepared for a raise in cost after a few months. We left after 6 months when wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and moved to memory care. Cost went from [name removed] month. The memory care unit is sadly not given the supervision required. In evening an additional person is needed to ensure the safety of all patients.

My Dad says the food is way better than [community removed] and it was too expensive. The staff is very nice he says, but, we just thought he'd be getting more PT, but I guess that's more up to medical and his doctors. Overall, very good and the price fits his budget

Very nice, affordable, plenty of activities, chef prepared meals, outings, shopping loop twice a week, hair salon on premises, cook outs, nothing but good things to say.

Business side feels very corporate with little local control, but some of the staff genuinely cares and is dedicated to taking care of the residence. Though there have been numerous staff changes, it's understandable that that is industrywide and not just specific to Brookdale Destin.

He was happy there, and enjoyed most of the staff (95%+). The rooms were clean, spacious, and kept up throughout his stay. [name removed] the receptionist was very kind and I appreciated her (As was [name removed]). The food looked delightful and was presented very well. Unfortunately he was on a puréed diet. Everyone was respectful and the overall building had a pleasant feeling to it. If someone I loved, or even myself, needed assisted living I would recommend Brookdale at the top of my list.

The food is not high standard. My brother is not happy at all with the food. They are nice people. Not all are high standard, but they are nice people.

my mom didn't get to stay very long. I was so excited for her and glad for it had a feeling of home where she could feel like her it was her personal place. I'll give Brookview 4 and 1/2 stars to the facility and the staff that made it tick. Can't say enough good about it. I thank you all. It was a blessing to my Mom and me.

The cost is a little over $[fee removed]k for basic care. You can get the same cost for a private nurse for $[fee removed]/hr and your parents can stay home if a family member can stay nights with them. My mom needed extra care to keep her safe, so in mom's case Brookdale was a god send.

1. Overall experience- we made a decision quickly. Brookdale’s proximity to our home was a strong determinant. medical plan from my husband PCP delayed move in but Brookdale hooked me up with flexible movers. Move in was a bit erratic and thought there would have been a resident/family orientation - nope! Waited for various services that could have been part of that orientation like wi-fi, medication procedures, tv installation, laundry and room cleaning days, etc. Brookdale missed an opportunity to make a great first impression and has been playing catch up with us since. 2.Cleanliness of the facility- Hall carpets look old and worn, whole facility need a paint refresh, power washing outside gazebo for critters and webs is recommended. 3.Friendliness 5- staff is very nice. Residents we have met are also nice and friendly. 4.Quality of care 4- recently, it took several days to get a urine sample. Laundry services is a mess. I brought in 2 comforters and 3 sets of sheets, 5 bath towels and washcloths. By the end of the first week, my husband had a single flat sheet and 1 bath towel and lots of stray items that belonged to others. Brookdale needs a procedure to clean up bathroom accidents without using the resident’s towels. Kudos to management for finally replacing our personal sheets and towels. 5.Administrative staff 4- open to discussion and questions. Could be more proactive with an orientation manual or even a buddy system with a designated staff member or other resident. 6.Food- 4-my husband says the meat dishes are “not good.” I’ve never seen or tasted the food. 7.Activities 3-not very interesting though the social director is very nice. 8.Value for the money- 4.

Staff is very helpful and friendly. The memory care facility is very clean. Activities and celebrations are plentiful. Dining experience is average according to my mother. Overall, a good experience so far.

So far, very good. Better overall care at Brookdale vs. the nursing home. Much better surroundings, more daily activities. At the nursing home, she had a UTI, which they discovered after she arrived at Brookdale. They caught it and got her to the hospital. At Brookdale, she is also able to go outside and enjoy the sunshine. Finally, Brookdale is far less expensive. Moving there was great good fortune.

They are all very nice and very helpful

I am happy my parents are here. However, when my mother fell in the side yard, the staff refused to help my dad stand her up. I thought my parents would be safer there since staff would be around to help. Instead, they said they're not allowed to help lift someone who falls. One of them even WALKED OFF. I am very displeased. Mom wasn't hurt but Dad needed a hand to help him. What if it had been raining? Just leave her in the mud? Everything else exceeds our expectations. My only real concern is the safety of my parents. I came on another of my frequent visits about a month ago. My dad was with me. As we approached the building, the fire alarm was going off. We ran upstairs and found my mother, who is in early-stage dementia, out on the balcony in a state of confusion. No one was in the hallways, nor was there any announcement over a PA that this was a drill. If it had been real, I suppose she could have been caught in the blaze. I went to the front desk to ask what had happened. The receptionist was lackadaisical about it.

The staff is very friendly and open to answer any questions you have. They care about my mom and make sure she is included and watched over. They have a lot of activities in memory care and everyone is included. The only issue I have is no communication with the doctor on issues she may be having.

Staff was lovely, food was good. My mother knew her home had not been sold and she wanted to go home. Signed herself out after 7 months. Now has dementia diagnosis and we are looking to put her back in someplace. Sell the home! . Laundry not always prompt but no other complaints on the facility

They are friendly and very responsive. They seem to care. I would recommend this community to other families based on the experience so far.

The administration has been responsive. My husband's caregivers are warm and compassionate. The language difference is a challenge in trying to give or receive information. I wish there had been clearer instruction about how the hospice staff interacts with Brookdale staff and who is responsible for what duties. The unit is kept very clean. I wish there was more fresh food in the meals which otherwise seems pretty good.

It is an older building. But still clean, just a bit dated. Staff was friendly and professional. Huge opportunity with activities. Meals looked good.

My mom loves the community and the activities. Staff is great too. I would definitely recommend to others. It was a good transition for our family.
