Brookdale

My mom's experience at Brookdale has been good overall. Her room is spacious and clean. She has eaten well with all food included in her residency plan. I receive all monthly invoices in the mail, which is important for me to have that transparency. I receive monthly wellness check up calls where I can discuss any open issues or concerns.

I have heard a few of the residents complaining about the food. I know that the person I have placed in your care does not eat the food provided by you, she only eats snacks because she just doesn't enjoy the food.

We had a bit of an emergency situation and the staff bent over backwards to accommodate our needs. Their memory care environment is the perfect atmosphere for my sister. She has a lovely room by herself with all her picture memories displayed. She likes the food and now takes me around when I visit to meet some of her new friends. The caregivers are always smiling and kind to the residents. The activities calendar doesn't always match what actually happens, but my sister seems happy and that's more important.

This was our first experience with memory care, so I had no idea that all of the admission paperwork and a TB test needed to be completed before my mom could move in. That process was not explained clearly, which made the transition more stressful than it needed to be. [name removed] was very helpful throughout the process. [name removed] the nurse, came across as grumpy and didn't seem very engaged. I did appreciate that the caregivers made an effort to gather residents for activities, and I know caregiving is a difficult job. The facility itself was clean. However, my mom was not given a bath twice a week as promised, and she also did not receive the assistance with changing clothes that we were paying for. We are now paying less at her current facility, and my mom complains much less about the care she is receiving there. Overall, there were some positive aspects, but the level of personal care did not match what we were promised or paying for.

I would say I love [name removed] she was so great through the whole process of my friend moving in. Loved [name removed] the nurse, she was wonderful and caring. Don't know what happened to her? [name removed] at the front desk is also great. She cares about the patients there. Have heard rumors there's no nurse at night if anyone needs one. Also the food has too much salt needs to be less. Other than that, I'm happy my friend is there.

our mom has really thrived at Brookdale. The staff friendliness and concern for mom's wellbeing is our biggest compliment. Every concern and question is answered timely and expertly. The size of her studio apartment is a little small but just what she needs now.

Brookedale was good and we would recommend the community to other families.

We were told the chef was a Cracker Barrel. That may be what he did there but he must had been fired. The menu doesn't match what is given most of the time. Food is over cooked to a point you cant bite it or cut with a knife. Food is cold. Portions are small. Plates returned to get warmed up are never brought back. Even the nurses that deliver the food to the residents say they are embarrassed in the food they bring out! Residents get their plate of food, they just get up and go back to their room without eating. I talked to the administrator about the food. I pointed out the issues. Her response was for the residents to take care of the issue! A-lot of these people wouldn't say anything bad about anything. But my father has spoken up to warm his plate that he never got back. These people aren't asking for fancy food. They want good hearty food. If this was a restaurant on the outside, they would have gone out of business. Residents are paying way more for what they get!

The community at West Boynton Beach was positive and engaged. Residents I spoke to were happy and said the staff was very nice to them. The facility was clean and well lit. The person giving us our tour was detailed and helpful. A lovely place.

I live many miles away and the staff made me feel comfortable if it comes to me having to put my dad into a assisted living home. Very nice place via facetime tour. The staff answered all my questions. They have activities to keep the tenants busy.

My mother complained that they misrepresented the mental capacities of the others living there and that people are generally not capable enough for conversing. She said the food was mediocre. My feeling is that it was reasonably well run and the facilities are well kept and that we did well there. But what old person isn't going to complain! As she became better and more ready for independent living she became less satisfied with the place. As for a score she would give it 2.5 stars and I would give it a solid 4 stars.

The apartment or room is very small, but the staff keeps it very clean. The staff is friendly. My cousin complains about the food being more or less the same every day. They were friendly enough when we picked them out, but did very little to socialize my cousin after she got there.

Brookdale Brushy Creek is a small community with a big heart. The staff is caring and has taken the time to get to know my mom. I appreciate that it is a closed door community for extra safety.

Very friendly admin staff. Remembers all our names. Apartment is very small. Food is very good. A nice variety. Care seems good so far. Occasionally my mom has to wait a bit long or try several times before someone comes. But that's not too often. Several activities per day. My mom hasn't been to many yet as other appointments always seem to be at the same time. Overall we're very happy with Brookdale.

If you are looking for an Assisted living facility where you need minimum extra care this would be a good place to consider. The food is very good, overall the facility is kept clean, and the activities are exceptional. However, if you are in need of constant care for hygiene and assistance with using the bathroom this facility does not have the staff required to provide this extra care. My wife who has parkinsons and dementia. She lived here for 9 months. During this time she fell 9 times, her last fall resulted in a broken arm. Also, because she could not use the toilet on her own there were several disgusting occurrences of feces all over her apartment. I finally moved her back home with a live-in caregiver. Again, for a someone looking for a true assisted living facility this would be a good choice. Those in need of memory care or constant hygiene care this would not be a facility to consider. The apartment for my wife at Brookdale was very good in size. It had a small kitchenette, sitting room, bedroom, and full bathroom.

My mom was only there 4 months. She passed in April. For the time she was there they were helpful, mostly kind. She told me about an incident with the aid that was helping get her to the dining hall. Aid left her without placing the wheelchair in front of the table. The whole reason we were using the service was because my mom couldn't maneuver the wheelchair herself. That is the only bad thing. The other staff were great. Room was a studio so small but clean. The food was really good. My brother ate and stayed in my mom's room while she was hospitalized. Mom never made it to any activities, they seemed outstanding. Full activity calendar. Great libraries, my personal favorite.

Yes the place is nice and clean the staff are very friendly. They have a lot of activities is for him keep them busy throughout the day. my apartments are pretty good size for since two people have to share one like my mom. The food seems OK.

The staff are great, the room is nice it fits a queen size bed, dresser with a mirror and has plenty of room for her walker and wheelchair. My MIL loves the food as she put on 20 lbs in one month, which she needed. She weighed 80 lbs and is now at 100 lbs. She loves getting her hair done every week.

Very positive visit. [name removed] was enthusiastic and informative. The facility, specifically the Memory Care unit, was satisfactory in appearance, and staff seemed very friendly. The only negative for me, as a medical professional, was the distinct smell of urine as we entered the Memory Care unit. I would assume this was in the carpet in that area. Otherwise, there was no odor. I realize we're talking elderly and mentally compromised adults, but that was very much a negative for me. Otherwise, we would likely have picked this facility.

[name removed] was very accommodating to give multiple tours to those seeking the best care. We all deeply appreciated all the extra time she took! We had to move in due to an emergency situation at her last facility, therefore, the room really wasn't cleaned to its optimal standard. The apartment size fits our needs. The food is tasteful. And she enjoys the fact that each server personally learned her name very quickly. We were disappointed that during our tours, we were told she would have a ride to church. That turned out not to be truthful. We also did not know that OC access bus does not cover Anaheim Hills. Therefore, she does not have a ride to her preferred hair salon. A welcome packet would be a good idea. That states how the facility works. Who to communicate to, how to sign up for shower times, who and what time our housekeeping coming, how is rent check collected, who is the bath aid, who do you report to if you are unsatisfied, how does the nursing staff work, an introduction to each key person in the facility. Executive Director, nursing Director, etc. She has had to be taken to the emergency room after being there for one month. She does not know how to use the staff to prevent hospitalization. She also ended up with a skin tear on her leg after going for an outing. One of the med techs put a bandage on her leg and we learned that the tech is not supposed to provide wound care.
