Brookdale

My mother would be complaining if the cleanliness was problematic and she's not. It's expensive, more expensive than we can really afford and we're looking into insurance options but it's certainly a good value for what you pay for. The care is excellent. I just don't think they've focused on activities. People weren't asking for them so they weren't getting them. Their shopping trips were kind of mundane. They starting to do more but it took requests to get them do things. This is the third place that my parents have been and management is terrific. They know how to manage a place like this. The nursing staff is excellent and that's been critical for my parents. Brookdale is very on top of things.

We are doing OK on the the value. By the time I got to Emeritus, it was like walking into heaven. It's more like an apartment in that it feels very independent, even though my mom is in assisted living. You can see the different levels of care available, but not everyone needs a lot of care. They do things like free manicures, swimming, Bingo and rummy, and shopping at Walmart. Each room has a nice size kitchen, and my mom has a two bedroom. In the dining room, you are assigned to a table and they serve you. It is a very good place.

I really liked Clare Bridge. If I had moved my parents back to Tennessee, I would have moved them here. The facility was really new, and I liked that. The staff was friendly, and the location was very convenient.

Brookdale was very nice but too expensive so I moved my mom out. It was eating up her savings. Other than the cost we had no problem at Brookdale. I moved mom out but then we had a problem at the new place and had to move her again. Brookdale took her back no problem. It's good. It's a nice place and my mom really felt at home here. The nurses are great but the aids are just so-so. My mom was happy there, she just couldn't afford to stay. You can get the same quality at other places for a much lower price.

I’m still shaking my head that the initial call back (from A Place for Mom) happened as my screen was being refreshed from completing the initial “search block” on your website. I had 4 return calls for referred locations within 45 min. It wasn’t just the speed of response; everyone I spoke with was gracious, helpful and competent. Specifically, Darlene & Jennifer (Clare Bridge) have been terrific (responsive, understanding & patient) in this first and tumultuous week of mom moving to her "new home".

It seems very good. They are very helpful. Mom calls them on her little call button eight or ten times a day and they don't complain. They come in and help her with whatever she needs. They are very attentive so that part is very good. It's expensive but she needs the extra care. They wash her clothes, help change her, empty the trash a couple of times a day. It's not cheap but it's not just rent. I have no complaints about that. Overall it's pretty good. I thought the food could be better - it was just a little tasteless. I mean at that age what else do you have to live for? It's what I live for at my age! I had a discussion with them about that and the next day it was better.

I did a lot of shopping around, the charge here is the best that I found in terms of what they provide for the dollar. The care is very attentive. I get calls from them all the time in terms of what they want to do for my mom. I never have to worry about her being ignored or neglected, which I think that a lot of people fear about assisted living. They take the residents out all the time. Most recently, they visited Mohegan Sun which is a casino here in Connecticut. They are going to New York City for Radio City's Christmas Spectacular. In general I have not had a single complaint.

They help her dress, take her to the dining room for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, they help her and come in the room with her breathing treatment. They are wonderful there. They are taking very good care of her. She has a two bedroom with a microwave and refrigerator, but no stove. They have just upgraded, changed out counter tops and back splashes in the rooms. It is really lovely. The price has increased since we've been there, but it is worth it.

I would highly recommend it. Very nice community.

She is not fully taking advantage, but they have lots of activities. They do bingo, exercise class, and they have a gentleman come in and play piano music. My mom is in assisted living, and they help with medication, showering, and extra nursing care with nausea when it's needed. They have a nurse on duty all the time. I ate the food the first day she moved in, and it was good. Staff interaction is good, I've seen them inviting residents for activities.

We moved my dad here 2 weeks ago. I'm very pleased with their care and the overall environment in this community. So far, very good.

My daughter is there, and as far as I know, it is quite satisfactory. She has never said anything to the contrary. It is close enough that I can go everyday. They layout is fine, nothing striking. Overall I believe that we are very pleased.

I don't know what other places cost. It seems really expensive to me but that may be what it is. They charge for giving her her medications and there is another charge if they have o take her to the doctor's office or things like that. The care seems to be very good and I think the activities are good too. She doesn't participate as much as I would like her to but they do encourage her to join in. They have outings to Walmart and the grocery store and they take them out to eat once a month. For me, Carolina House is a blessing. My mother, i'm sure, would rather be at home. I wish she didn't need the care but she does and I think they do a good job.

This place was great! I thought it was wonderful but they didn't have memory care. There was no nurse and that wasn't going to work for my father. It was a beautiful place and we liked the set up. They had their own little houses that they could stay in. It was absolutely beautiful but I needed to find memory care.

Our family has been very pleased with Emeritus of Harrisonburg. As with any changes for a parent I would advise you to be prepared for your loved one's confusion and wanting to go home. The staff at Emeritus was very helpful in these situations. The staff are very kind and patient with our mother and are understanding of every kind of personality.

Recently renovated, it's bright & cheerful. Great staff, everyone is helpful & caring. They specialize in dementia & Alzheimer's care.

I like hat it has a lot of stimulation for the clientele there. The only thing is difficult is my father is confined to a wheelchair most of the time because he broke a hip and the doors are self shutting. They're pretty good with him but sometimes he may not be able to get into his room independently but I understand the need for doors to close.

The only thing I've had an inkling about it I've had a number of meals there and I would not like those to be what I eat every day. I really wonder if they're getting the amount of calories they really need. My husband has dementia, so he really doesn't know and he thinks the food is great, but when I had meals there they weren't to my liking. That would be it, and the cost. As far as treatment and care, I have no complaints. He can go out to the garden and pulls weeds, he can go in and out the door any time he wants, the garden is right in the middle so he can't go anywhere and I'm glad he has the garden. He can tell the difference between a dead leaf and a green leaf and it keeps him busy. At least it's something to expend his energy, I think they're treated well, they're watched over, it's clean, I'm just not too pleased with the food and the cost.

I think it's a very competitive price for the Boise area. As far as I know the care is fine. I'm quite a ways away. We did this for my mom. They have lot's of activities. They have exercise, I think everyday. They have a balance class a couple of times a week. They take people to medical appointments 3 days a week. The transportation services are very good. They go to the bank and grocery store and those kinds of places. My mother also has a couple of friend that have moved in there and it's close to the home she was living in before so those were important factors in our decision.
