Brookdale

This is a fairly decent community. It compares well with other communities. It may not be perfect but it is a decent fit for my loved one. The tour was great and they showed me all that I needed to see about the community.

We had a couple of issues, but I think it was just due to miscommunication. Overall it was a good experience.

I have spoken highly of this community. I feel like due to covid they still have some procedures to follow, however without covid I feel like this community would be even better. I have met a few staff members and the ones I have met seem friendly and attentive to my loved ones needs. They sometimes take a while to respond the the literary response.

I pout my loved one in here because they accept Medicaid and they were the only one in the area that does. She complains about the food, the menu does not have a good variety from what I have seen and they are having a hard time keeping a cook. They only have one item to choose from for the meals or you can get a sandwich hotdog or soup. She is going blind so it would be nice if they could provide activities for her that she is able to do. If you are looking for Medicaid it is a decent facility.

Our family had an in person tour and we really liked Brookdale, but location wise it was just to far away

We went with Brookdale Durham because we needed a place where my parents could go together which narrowed our search considerably. They had availability here with larger apartments to suit their needs. It seems like all of the staff members know all of the residents on a personal level and are always super helpful. I do not think the call bell system is good at all, the response time is slow and the functionality is not the best. Overall I would recommend the facility to others looking.

We had a very nice tour with Brookdale Charlotte East. It did have more of that nursing home feel to it and I think that was just because they offer independent living and assisted living as well. The sales staff were wonderful and really spent their time with us answering any questions we had. For us the location was too far and it is in a part of town where there is more crime. It is a gated community, but with them going out on the bus we just did not feel she would be as safe.

This seems to be a very solid community. They have had a lot of big renovations happening and staff changes. Things are a little chaotic right now but I expect for things to settle and change. I would recommend to bring your loved one here. They have activities at this community like crafting, work outs, trips out to stores and other places for the residents to get out and about.

The community is in transition as there have been a lot of turnover of management staff. I was able to get an issue resolved with the director; however, it took awhile. This might have been as the director was new to the community. There were issues with medication management and there were times they would deliver the meds late at night and wake my loved one up. There were times the residents would be waiting in the doorway for their medication, as it was taking so long to get it to them. The community is clean, and the staff are wonderful. The dining room has recently reopened in the last 8 weeks or so, after the pandemic protocols. There is refrigerator in the apartment for my loved one. My loved one's room is beautiful and it is clean. They provide housekeeping once a week. Since my loved on is gaining their strength back, I am thinking about moving my loved one from the community. They do have transportation for the residents to use for doctor appointments.

It's been okay. It's a nice place. They've helped out and taken care of Mom a lot. Is there a perfect place? No. But we're okay with it. It took her a while, but Mom is starting to really adjust.

The staff are excellent. They've been very helpful and caring, and they got me through a really rough time. Everything in the facility is very clean and nice. They keep it up really well. They vacuum and dust often. And spills are taken care of immediately.

Everything has there pluses and minuses. All in all I have been pleased with our experience. It is a comfortable and modest community. It is easy for my loved one to navigate. The main and common areas are clean. There was a time that my loved one needed to pull the cord for assistance, and there was a staff member in my loved one's room immediately. The staff are patient, kind, and caring. There is a flat rate each month. All the meals, snacks, encourage the residents to eat, laundry, housekeeping, activities, medication management, and transportation are all included in the monthly rate. There is someone that comes in to cut the residents hair and trim their breads. There is a podiatrist that comes in to check the residents. There is a nail salon for the residents to get this done once a month. The community is able to handle medication management, and they are willing to assist with bathing if necessary. The food is really good here. They have a secure unit for memory care; however, it is big enough for my loved one to go for walks. They have common areas, a library, and a courtyard that is strictly for memory care. The staff must let the residents out to the courtyard, so they know where the residents are. On top of everything else, Brookdale has hospice. They want to work with the resident to the end of life, unless the medical needs get to be too much. All the staff know my loved one by name.

Brookdale Baywood is a nice place. I'm happy that my loved one is here. There have been a couple of bumps and they have been resolved. The day to day staff have been excellent to work with if we have questions or concerns. Laundry services, escorts to the dining room, Assistance button, medication management, housekeeping and the room are all included in the monthly fee.

It was very clean. The staff were very nice, but they understaffed and just didn't have enough help. My loved one went into hospice pretty quickly after moving in, and hospice did a better job with communication than Brookdale.

You can expect to feel very welcomed there. I think like every place right now, they're experiencing challenges with staffing shortages. But I think they do a good job in most areas. I know my loved one was an especially challenging case, with higher care needs than we expected. So it took a little bit of time and learning for both them and us to get everything adjusted. But there's a great community feeling. It's a beautiful space. The staff are caring and professional. And the food was good judging based on institutional food standards.
