Brookdale

This was a very nice community. The people were very nice and the community was clean. This community was close to me but further from my other loved one. We wanted somewhere that would be halfway for us. Also they did not take medicaid and that was not something that we wanted because we would have had to transfer our loved one. The building seemed like it also may have been confusing for the residents to navigate through.

The memory care residence is a hopping place. The staff interacts well with the residents, engaging them in activities and conversation. This was a good move for our loved one.

I'm as happy here as possible since I can't live with family and I can't safely live alone. The staff is friendly and helpful. The environment is attractive and clean. I don't give 5's for anything.

People are very nice. Staff great to help us get back on our feet. I appreciate all the help.

Dad has been very happy with Brookdale. The facility is attractive and maintained. He enjoys the activities. The staff is personable and does a caring job.

It has been a good experience for us. The staff have been able to make this a good experience for the family and our loved one. The staff are pretty good at answering or addressing our questions or concerns about our loved one. The food is good. The community has menus for my loved one to order off of and select what they want. The apartment, changing of linens, laundry, housekeeping, transportation, all the meals, and utilities (excluding basic cable) are included in the the monthly fee. There is a monthly charge for the assistance pendant that the resident's wear and basic cable. The community is able to handle the medication management for my loved one's care. The community does offer additional care types, if your loved one needs them.

The staff and residents are very friendly. There are lots of activities. The facility is very nice, and they appear to keep it clean for the most part. But the floors are always sticky, especially in the dining room. And the food is not the greatest. But overall, for the value, I think the price is good.

If your loved one is active, Brookdale is a fantastic place for active seniors. There are residents here who actually run their businesses from their apartments! If a couple decides to move in and one is independent and the other is in need of assisted living or memory care; Brookdale won’t divide the two or say one can come, but the other cannot. The 2 bedroom apartments are very spacious and you have the option of choosing a full kitchen or a kitchenette. If one person needs to leave and can’t bring the other with them, they will allow a 3rd party sitter to come over or you can hire one from Brookdale. A lot of communities don’t offer that. The Brookdale sitters are substantially better in my opinion, because they will assist with everything in a bedside manner. They can pretty much do anything aside from administer medication unless they are certified for that. They go with the residents to their doctor appointments and Brookdale provides transportation to appointments and other places. If you are fully independent and would prefer to drive your own car, you can do that as well. It’s a great place if you have a loved one with dementia or in need of advanced care, but you aren’t in a good enough space to retire. You can live here and still work everyday. I’ve seen residents operate full fledged work from home businesses in their apartments. This generation of seniors knows how to operate technology and oftentimes have jobs in tech support, computer engineering, software development, etc. This could be a wonderful place for those people who don’t want to part from their significant others, but would still like to work themselves. Brookdale is a community where you can work hard your entire life and still feel like you’re getting the best quality of life in your last years. They provide a great environment for that. It's nice being able to see couples stay together and I love that! You can also age in place there. Some places don’t allow you to do that depending on your level of care or needs. At Brookdale, their philosophy is that the community is your home. So, if you have a surgery or procedure that is not too invasive, you’re able to go back home to Brookdale right after. I really like that philosophy and I think it can be comforting for those who may not have children or a lot of family. In those cases, Brookdale becomes your family. It really gives that feeling of, “I’m going to my apartment”. There’s also a fabulous locked memory care unit for those who need that level of security. Their patient to staff ratio is very good in that area. It’s kept separate, but sometimes the other spouse is on one side of that unit and they are able to come and go as they please. There is even a sense of independence in the memory care unit and with its residents. They have a person who comes in 5 days a week to entertain the dementia patients with activities. Brookdale is the best of both worlds and I would recommend them to others. I would tell others that if you need more one-on-one care, you need to hire additional help or a sitter. Despite how much you’re paying to be there, wherever you go, there are very few facilities that can provide one-on-one care for someone who is mentally or physically high maintenance.

Brookdale is always willing to try and help explain things. Explain their billing, etc. I'd like to know where's the money going and what's it being used for. They are very friendly, and even pointed me in the direction of getting a better insurance policy which covers more and costs less. That turned out to be one of things I was looking into for my mom. An all around good place and when it comes to to the actual cost they will help you try and keep it as low as possible. Financial wise, they are very helpful, they're helpful with my mom too. My mom is happy there and says they take care of her, which is a plus. I picked Brookdale because they're the only ones that had staff that could take care of my mom and administer her insulin shots. One of the communities we saw didn't have the ability to do that and the other was a hotel they repurposed. Out of the three I was recommended, Brookdale was the only one who had a healthcare team.

The staff have been really good to work with if I have any questions or concerns. The food needs more variety with more fresh foods available for the residents. This also needs to be delivered in a timely manner so the food is not cold. Changing of lines, housekeeping, the apartment, all the meals, and utilities are included in the monthly fee.

Our family had an in person tour and it was a really nice tour experience but the community was just to far away from our loved ones doctors office. The people there were very nice, and they were doing updated to the community while I was there and it looked like everything was going to turn out super nice.

This community offered a lot of amenities but it just felt a little impersonal. The rooms looked like hotel rooms and was not the environment that we were looking for. The memory care was also not up to my standards.

I would suggest you go check out Brookdale for your loved one. I like the location and the staff have been very helpful. The price is great for us. My loved one loves the food. The staff are always good at getting back to me with any questions or concerns that I have. Plus their follow through is great! There are menus for the residents to choose from with options and a well balanced meal. There is lunch and dinner provided during the week and I believe there is a breakfast bar for the residents to choose from. Meals on the weekend are delivered to the resident's rooms instead of being in the dining room. Housekeeping, changing of the linens, utilities, transportation, and the apartment are included in the fee per month. Cable is not included in the monthly fee. The apartment has a full kitchen, there is no dishwasher. There are laundry facilities that are down the hall from my loved one's room.

This is a beautiful community and the food and the activities are good. The staff are very attentive with the residents. I was able to communicate well with all of the nurses and aids in the community in regards to my loved one. All of this helped create a very positive experience for me and my loved one. The tour was great and they gave me all of the information that I needed and answered all of my questions.

The Brookdale Wekiwa Springs community is very nice, the outside area and surrounding grounds are super nice we really like that area. The staff members always have a smile on their face every time we come to visit our loved one. We really enjoy the activities program, they do celebrate birthday and holidays. Our loved one specifically enjoys the dancing, music and all the socializing. We would recommend this community to other families

I would say to look else where other than this community or to find something else better. The meals are not the best and I feel like this community is over rated. There are also not a lot of activities in this community. The staff are friendly and do their jobs however, they don't try to persuade the residents when they need to do things. They are not forceful with the residents. But if my loved one says no to something they need I would like them to persuade or address it more.
