Brookdale

Have had some issues with care services, have call later today with them to get resolved. Food service having some issues with dementia patients for instance hamburger and chicken very tough not able to cut down to bite size pieces have talked with staff and speaking with staff. Softer foods need to be more of an option, they will offer sandwich but only option is PB&J. Would like to see other sandwich options for residents. Staff is working with them on the issue at times can rush residents a bit too much with food service and have seen them take away plate while they are still eating. Mom doesn't participate much, do have decent activities program offered with Bingo, TV, Music, crafts and holiday specific programs. Getting back on track as the activities director was out but has since returned. Head staff is very friendly & outgoing if and when do have any issues they work to resolve and great communication with family. Best so far compared to other properties that have been in the past.

We visited 7 care centers prior to choosing Brookdale. I don't believe you can have 100% satisfaction where finances AND care are intertwined. Expect a several month adjustment period, but keep in close contact with staff and family member. Like - All staff are quick to learn resident's first name, willing to do anything to benefit resident, Excellent food choices, Staff's friendliness to the residents and toward each other, Constantly busy (very rare to see any of them sitting) Dislike - Lack of communication when resident has issues (Call or documentation should be consistent), Correcting financial discrepancies is ridiculously complicated

My experience with Brookdale Pearland has been mostly positive. There's only been a few issues, but they've worked them out. As far as communication goes, there's been a bit of a disconnect between the staff and management, and what my parents have to say about things. Sometimes things don't get communicated correctly, so I have to step in and sort things out. The food is adequate; my dad complains some times about it not being good, but on the other hand he says it's good at times. They combined two units together to make my parents apartment into a one bedroom. It has a little kitchenette, and they had to bring their own furniture. It's been an adjustment because they've been independent their whole lives, but its working out. I would likely recommend Brookdale to others.

It is a very nice place for anyone's loved ones to live here.

When I've mentioned Brookdale to others I've said, "My dad didn't like it, but he also wanted to be at home.". He was, however, able to have his dogs with him there. The apartment came with a door wall that led to the outside, and we put up a little fence out there. That way he could easily allow his dogs to come in and out. There was no place like that where he could've gone. I'll never tell anyone it was a bad experience, because it wasn't. I think people have to be the ones to do the communicating, or there probably won't be any otherwise. As far as improvements, the price was outrageously expensive. He basically got this tiny space for more than a few thousand a month, which included lunch and dinner. If he didn't go down and get a meal himself, they would charge him to bring it up - and I thought that was ridiculous. On the other hand, I did like that he could have his dogs. They also gave me a back door key so I could easily access his apartment, which was located in the back of the community. There were a couple caregivers there I got to know, they were really nice and often asked me how he was doing.

There are some issues I'm still trying to resolve, and things are not going quite as well as I would like, mostly because there is a high staff turnover, so some continuity is lost with those changes. But I really like the staff that are there. They're extremely friendly, and they seem to be friendly with my mother too, which is most important to me. Mother says the food is wonderful, and I think the cost is fair.

The staff are very friendly and they are communicative with the family about our loved one. They are attentive towards my loved ones. There are three meals a day served and there are choices for the residents to choose from. There are activities for the residents to participate in, if they choose to.

I had a pretty good tour experience with Brookdale Montrose. The reason I did not choose this facility was because I am a maintenance guy and I could tell it was not kept up as well as another place I was looking into. It is also not as new though.

Our family had an in person tour and all the staff we met with seemed really nice but it was just to far out of our budget

Good community, but on a busy street. I felt it would be to noisy for my loved one.

I've been very comfortable. The food is good. I've met some very nice people. Its just been great. I've enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Especially for the cost, it's been great so far. And Mother seems to like it, which is the most important thing. Not all the time, but sometimes communication could be a little better. If I call to speak to the director, they're always in a meeting. But for the most part they call me back. And I know they're busy taking care of everybody. Her daily care seems fine. Little things that bother me (for instance, sometimes I find her in someone else's clothes) don't bother her. So I try to keep that in perspective. And I see that the staff are very attentive to her, especially now that she's in the memory care unit.

From our initial tour & throughout my husband's 3 week stay, everyone was very caring and concerned. The executive director, maintenance person were all hands on & approachable. I want to thank everyone for their help.

I thought the community was very nice during the tour. The location was further for family to visit than we wanted.

I would overall tell others that my loved one is happy here and it has been a positive experience so far for us. My loved one loves the food served, there are choices to choose from, and there are two meals served a day and the resident gets to choose which meals they attend. The apartments have a full kitchen in them. The washer and dryer are communal and are in the same building for the residents to use.

Brookdale University Park evaluated my mother and at first they said that she needed memory care but we got them to reevaluate and they went down to assisted living. We were happy with this choice because we knew she did not need memory care yet. They were more than willing to reevaluate and made it an easy process on the family. I would recommend them to others looking and already have. As long as she is happy and well cared for, we are happy as well.

Our loved one was very nervous about going through this whole process but when we arrived to the community the staff introduced her to a resident who is also an ambassador for the community to take her around which really broke the ice and we really appreciated that. Our loved one does not always participate in the activities but they do have a lot to offer from what we can see.

Our family had an in person tour and we were very impressed - the facility was a little older looking but that did not bother us. The staff we met with were great but in the end the price for the care was just to expensive for us

Everybody is short handed which we understand but sometimes things may get overlooked and certain attention fall through the cracks like medication management. However the friendliness of everybody has really stood out and we do think our loved one is getting along really well there.
