Brookdale

We picked this community because, they had independent, assisted living and memory care all in one facility. They also have their own in-house caregiving staff which was a huge selling point for me.

We picked this community because, it was newer looking, more modern and clean. The sales staff was friendly. The nursing staff is really doing a good job. They have improved on somethings, and have been top notch. Th elast month things have been excellent.

We picked this community because, of what they offered in care options: independent living, assisted living and memory care unit. And it was reasonably priced .I feel like the meals needs to improve. I have eaten there and other places and I wouldn't like eating that stuff. Plus, for them, the move-in process was not great. To use the service elevator you had to come from the back where they have the trash and it smelled terrible.

Our family had an in person tour and the tour experience was okay, the location was somewhat in a commercial/shopping area which we were not the biggest fan of and the residents did not really appear to be engaged in much activity. Now that might of not been Brookdale's fault, that could of just been the state of the residents, the staff we did meet with were very friendly.

We've experienced mostly good things at Brookdale Wornall Place. The people are really friendly here. It's a pretty good value for the money compared to other places. I feel very safe here. We really like having a garage - not many places do. I like our apartment. I just wish there were a washer and dryer included in the unit. You have to go down the hall to do your laundry. For whatever reason, it can be hard to get repairs taken care of. Eventually it will get done, but it may take a while if a part needs to be ordered and the repair isn't a critical one. One big issue is the meals - they are just horrible. They're repetitive, and the quality and preparation of the food is not good. The majority of the people I talk to to here feel the same. Lots of things outweigh the food, but the food is a real downer.

What we really like about this community is the staff, they are very friendly and activities look like they would be good. However our family member is not one to go out and participate and there does not seem to be any encouragement there. Also communication with nursing staff could be better including the follow through. There was a huge bill the second month and while they said it would be more it was double, there was really no warning for that. That definitely could be improved .

Our first impress wasn't so great, tour was very nice informative. The tour guide was in training, and had help at the end. She did mail more information to the family.

My Dad loves the heated swimming pool & morning water aerobics, 5 days/week. He's happy with the food and even happier that he sits with different people at different meals. A big bonus is that he has made friends with several widowers who are still with it & they have interesting conversations, unlike prior places where male friendship was harder to find. The location provides beautiful sunsets. There's a good sized population among the independent living units so there's more chance to find folks he enjoys. The staff is very helpful & accommodating of his interests, such as joining the local church choir & taking his daily bike rides around the campus, bringing the bike in & out on the elevator. He has settled in super well and seems genuinely interested in living there.

Our families experience

Staff was great however the management did not always know what was going on. The food was okay not the best, the value was good. The community was clean and the caregivers did a great job which was the most important thing. They were outstanding.

The nursing staff is very good but there are just not enough of them to care for all the residents in the memory care unit. My family member sometimes has to wait up to 30 minutes for a nurse to arrive and provide assistance with activities of daily living. They are so caring and supportive, they just need more of them. The accommodations are wonderful with the private rooms. It is very safe and always a pleasant atmosphere for my family member. Room cleanliness could stand a bit of improvement. There are many days that the room has food and dirt on the floors. Also nurses need to assist with personal care more routinely. I've found my family member has gone days without teeth being brushed. My family member doesn't remember and just needs the brush and paste provided as its in a locked cabinet for safety. The communication between myself, the nurses and the physicians is not adequate as it could be. Often times my requests for the physician are not passed along or are incorrect when done. My family member is adjusting very well to Brookdale and I do recommend it highly. I've experienced other care facilities and this one by far rates above them. Simple changes could push my recommendation to a 5 overall.

While our loved one was a resident at Brookdale, we had a pretty great experience with them.

The community has been very helpful in getting our family settled. I would recommend the community to others for their loved ones. There are three meals a day served to the residents and they have choices to choose from. There is exercise, trivia, games, and more for the residents to participate in. The community sends a monthly calendar out to the family to see. The staff communication with the family has been very good.

The facility is nice but I think they are understaffed

Brookdale Colonial Park we really liked but it's out of our budget. Colonial Park seems to have tenured staff and the residents I spoke with were very happy there.

Brookdale Ormond Beach West was our second choice. They gave us a good tour. The reason we did not choose this facility was because it was a lot larger and the location is further away from me. We ended up going with a smaller facility that was close to home.

Overall, it's been a good experience. They worked really well with us in getting our loved one moved in, including getting his furniture situated. The care seems to be fine, and he doesn't complain about the food.

Our family had an in person tour and it was a really good tour but we did not care for the parking situation for the visitors - at the time the gates were closed which could of been because of covid but we would have to park around the block and walk back, and at night time we just did not feel that was safe for visiting family so we saw that as a drawback

Like most care facilities, there is not enough staff. It's very bright and cheerful and clean. The residents seem content and staff seems happy. Housekeeping seems to vary some from week to week, probably also a staffing shortage. Overall I would recommend them to family and friends.

I toured this community and it was nice. It's a renovated building and seems very upscale. The layout wasn't ideal for me and my needs.
