Brookdale

A staff that cares about the residents. Also, I'm kept in the loop on all issues. The only negative has been their inability to keep her hearing aid charged and available for her use. It's been missing for weeks now and will probably never be found. She's practically deaf without it. It's unfortunate. It directly impacts her quality of life.

The staff is attentive to my mom and responsive to me when I have questions/concerns. Much better experience than the previous care community my mom lived in. Mom shares a room. It's not huge but she's rarely in it during waking hours. They have time scheduled for arts/crafts, exercise, field trips, etc. People bring pets in to interact with the residents.

My mother is very happy at Brookdale. The director of the memory care unit is fantastic and has a bimonthly support group for the family members. I had an issue with 1 of the staff and the way she treated my Mom, but it was addressed immediately, and improved substantially. Overall I am so glad we chose Brookdale.

I have been here for quite some time-- I like the people and the friendly staff -- I love to play games with my friends and hang out -- I do feel I get my moneys worth here-- I love all of the activities

I would definitely recommend Brookdale Santa Monica Gardens. The facility is well cared for, the food is good, the staff seems friendly, the management is very helpful, and the location is great. I wish Mom were there now!

The staff is very responsive, and there's plenty to do, with activities organized by the staff and also by the residents. The downside is that it is kind of expensive, and it's run by a big national company, so they are slow on billing issues.

I love it here. Very friendly residents. I made a lot of new friends.

Good Experience so far.

The food is actually very tasty and provides a variety. However, my mother has Brittle Diabetes and there's rarely enough options for her to eat without it having a dramatic impact on her glucose levels. She has to eat low low carbs, high protein in her meals. When were touring we asked about this concern and were told that she would be able to share that with the chef and explore other options. Unfortunately, that's not been the case. There are lots of different activities accessible to the residents... including Catholic mass, Irish singers, Country groups, etc. However, as a person of color of Christian faith (and one of just a couple of residents of color in the building), it would be nice to have a more diverse set of activities offered to all residents (i.e. gospel music, diverse movies, artists, Afrocentric crafts, vendors, etc.). It's hard enough feeling like you're "the only" in a community. But at least diversifying things/activities would not only please my mother (and potentially others as well), but it would definitely serve to expose everyone else to potentially something new and interesting. I think that Brookdale could benefit from overall efforts regarding diversity...for EVERYONE's advantage. Differences should be exhibited and encouraged. I love Brookdale Tarzana for my brother. I only wish they had more activities for him. He is more mobile than most. The food is delicious and all the staff are great!!

The facility is warm, friendly and attentive (mostly) to needs. All in all a good place. The room is nice, certainly adequate. Amenities- dining is pleasant although menu could use a little work but not bad. Activities are very nice.

I have found the staff and administration very friendly and helpful. They keep me informed of all changes in her heath, behavior and medications. Room size is fine.

We've been here over 6 months, and overall very pleased with everything. There could be a few more activities for wheel chair bound, tossing balloon or bean bags toss. The cost is relatively high but overall care is great.

I was very impressed with the staff on my first visit. My loved one isn't very picky about food but hasn't been impressed with the meals. Cleaning the residents rooms based on my loved ones experience hasn't been great. Have had to ask someone to vacuum and clean the bathroom. Need more games activities like Bingo more often because seniors who don't have a lot to do love to play games.

I like the people here -- they are nice -- I feel safe here- I have lots of friends here at Grand Court and I like people-- I know lots of people here -- the hardest part is when you lose someone or they move away after you get to know them-- I love the staff --- I enjoy the meals and the food here and sometimes I just ask for more and they bring me more-- I order my dessert early

Over all we have been very pleased with Brookdale. The staff is friendly and she is being taken care of well. It’s clean and they have activities for them to do each day. The residents are always out and about and not stuck in their rooms all day.

I moved my friend onto Brookdale Monterey about 2 years ago due to her diagnosis of dementia. She has been very happy at Brookdale, she made new friends and the staff are very helpful to make sure she has everything she needs to be safe and comfortable. They’ve taken her to movies, dining out and field trips to the park and local museums. Her room is a nice size and her roommates have all been lovely. I would recommend Brookdale Monterey for a loved one needing Memory Care.

The staff has always let me know immediately anything that's ever happened to my mom. Example: skin tear or a fall of any kind. No matter the severity. Thank goodness nothing bad has ever happened. She's clean, she's dressed warm, she hasn't lost any weight to speak of so I know she's eating well. The DON is friendly and knows my mom well. Any time we've ever had a issue with anything financial, admin has resolved the issue fairly quickly.

I am in the independent living area, so actual care is limited, but what I do receive is excellent. I would most definitely recommend this community to other families

I would definitely recommend Brookdale Bend for other families looking for memory care for a loved one.
