Brookdale

House keeping needs improvement .Some staff Members have very nasty attitude. Physically rough and intimidating need some work on how to treat the patient. Food is good.

Mom is slow to adjust to activities. Dining has been good except for 1 sour experience (poor service and cold food). Housekeeping has been an issue but I believe we have that figured out finally (issues with both mom and Brookdale). Still would highly recommend the facility. Everyone is positive and friendly, atmosphere is inviting, and I am hopeful mom will start to adjust more rapidly (but she's stubborn that way)!

What we like the most about the community is that mostly all of the staff was very kinds and welcoming to my father, but the food needed improvement. Also [name removed] I think her last name was amazing.

Brookdale vista was great for most things. Everyone is under staffed and they are no exception. Overall they were great. But they did fall short on getting meds out in a timely manner. My mom would have anxiety episodes if she got behind on her meds . And they were doing their best but you can only do so much when you're understaffed. That's really my only complaint/concern.

The entire staff is very kind & helpful. The only downside is that the nurse could be more forthcoming with information. I only find out if something is wrong by asking.

My father has been there a year now. I've joined him for meals, especially in the beginning when there were lots of last minute or unexpected medical appointments and can say the food is delicious. The wait staff are nice, and helpful. The health and wellness directors have been very helpful. It was very bumpy for the first few months with my father's unplanned prolonged medical needs. They were very patient, even helped us avoid one of the many trips to the ER with their extended help in that moment. The grounds a beautiful. My father's window overlooks the walking path and he enjoys watching people and their animals walking by. Now that he's more stable, he enjoys taking walks outside around the building and loves to overlook the grounds of the open park area. This was part of the reason we liked this facility as our family has always enjoyed being outdoors in nature. Of course care is most important. This facility was the only one we toured that gave him the chance to be in assisted living rather than memory care when having to abruptly find a facility for my father. The sales manager was super helpful and loaded with extra information and tips as we navigated through a very unknown and stressful time. We are so grateful for their willingness and patience to give him the time and chance he needed. The billing has always been accurate and very straight forward, clear and easy to understand. The only drawback I've found is that the aids are abrupt in their visits for my father's medication management. Most are polite, but don't offer much conversation. I realize they have others to attend to, aren't there for a social visit, and have to be brief, but just a little more warmth or interaction would go a long way. My father needs just a minute to wrap his head around things sometimes, especially when new or for something out of routine. Although my father doesn't take part in many activities up in the activity room, he does thoroughly enjoy the entertainment they provide on occasion in the lobby area. He also is finally enjoying the gatherings in the country kitchen, although I wish that gathering area was designed a little bigger. He shied away at first because folks have to spill out into the hallway and he doesn't like walking in to the center of attention.

Everyone is nice and helpful. I would say they could have done a better job preparing for my dad's initial arrival. There was no prior conversation about his medication's, and it caused quite the confusion the night he got there. There should be some kind of handout and what to expect the first day there or someone to greet you. I know we got there in the evening and everybody was probably gone for the day, but that could've been explained too.

The room size is small, but overall it works for my mom. I have never eaten there. Mom mostly enjoys it. Everyone is friendly.

The administrative staff is nice and the overall appearance of the community is very nice. Yes, I would recommend Brookdale West Orange community to other families based on the experience so far.

Brookdale Florham Park gets a 4+. My loved one is in memory care and it is a bit different.

I would recommend to others. I'm pleased with the care my father is receiving.

The very first thing and impression I had about the community was the enthusiasm and openness of your sales coordinator, [name removed]. He always answered my calls, questions and concerns right away. He always took whatever time was needed to be there when I called. On the Face Time tour every thing looked friendly, clean and happy. Since then, I have learned that there are problems with the room not being really ready for someone to move into. Problems with the heating/air conditioning, shower working properly and water temperatures, window blinds missing slats, lack of being able to get help finding way around the facility, finding someone has been in my apartment without my knowing about it ahead of time, finding someone willing to help with hooking up the TV, how to use the equipment in the exercise area, answer questions about finding/selecting a doctor or lawyer and how to go about transferring Rx's to here from Oregon, how to get help in selling my home in Oregon while I am here. The staff and administration seem to feel that if a person is here as an independent living person that they are to give no assistance whatever which is not what people usually do in real life as most people are willing to help out others when they need it or ask for help. This place seems to think you are independent so figure it out for yourself. Also, the food is not something to be proud of nor even share with your friends and visitors. I think that the most valuable asset that Brookdale Santa Catalina has, or I should say had was[name removed] as he has since moved on. What a shame. Overall, I think a lot, a whole lot, could be done to improve the situation here because it has a lot going for it. If I were to do this again right now I would definitely look somewhere else. Again, what a shame.

[name removed] seems to be adjusting well. He is in the memory care section. I am very satisfied with his care.

The welcoming of the residents. Everyone I meant from residents to staff was friendly, helpful and kind. The various activities provided. There activities for everyone from bridge to line dancing. I love seeing people joining in the groups.

The admin staff is poor and that is because the director isn't responding to a request and does not interact at all with the residents. The food is fair and that is because it is not consistently good and is sometimes too salty. I think they could do a better job. The nurses and caregivers seem to really care about the residents

Most of the staff is ok, doing their job, one person goes beyond her job description to help my brother and I Food qualify and selection need improvement Carpeting in hallways need replacing Better and more secure lock system on unit entry door Some departments are 8am-5pm.. they should be 24/7 staff coverage, considering the type of facility and it's residents safety and security Overall, I would recommend the facility, but minor changes need to be implemented

Most of the dining room servers are nice. Housekeeping tries to do a good job. Why have alcohol beer, wine at happy hour.

10+ year plus resident. Loving and caring attitude toward my mother. Proactive for heath and physical concerns. Good communication welcoming and homey atmosphere.

The only disappointment is that the van to take people shopping or out for sight seeing has been out of commission for a long, long time. Those rides were important to the residents. It's a highlight of there day. My mom really misses the excursions.
