Brookdale

We are disappointed in the large jump in $ fee for 2026 for my mother to live there. We are probably going to have to find somewhere else for her to live.

The staff was very personal, taking the time to get to know my mother and tailoring their care to her.

I would say it is a great place overall. I would recommend to others. The staff there genuinely seem to care about the residents

Brookdale staff are professionals. As we walked through the door we knew that Brookdale was the place for my dad. They were welcoming, from reception, dining, program to the admin staff, everyone made us feel at home. The ambience was beautiful and everything was well organized.

[name removed] was wonderful - strict, but pleasant and understanding. The Director position changed like three times while my ex-husband was at Brookdale. Only the first was noteworthy and I felt as he cared about patients and family.

The facility is clean and the staff is kind and friendly. I would recommend Brookdale Colonial Heights for those looking for memory care for a loved one.

I would recommend them to others. I feel that Brookdale is doing a good job with my mother, however, I have receive notice that their rates may be going up and I will have to see if her income.

The staff seems very friendly and they have activities on week days. It is also very clean. My mother says it's difficult to find a med tech to get otc meds like cough and eye drops. She has some laundry that has never been returned. But I believe in general it is a safe, friendly and caring place. I would rate it a 4 because I know very elderly people have sometimes inexhaustible needs and you can't always please them.

I have a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 balconies, full kitchenand washer dryer and am very happy with the apartment. Every staff person I have met has been most accommodating and friendly. Maintenance people have been responsive and knowledgeable. Outings include museums in Denver, lectures off site, maybe 4-6 restaurants a month, musical events and the bus driver is so so helpful, patient and nice especially since he has to deal with walkers , an occasional wheelchair and a bunch of old people. There are many activities in house. Cards, bingo, once in awhile a movie, happy hour once a week with wine and a musical act. Then there’s the food. I've been here just about a year and I have seen executive chefs come and go. Mostly go. I understand that he or she is in a no win situation. The food isn't really bad and occasionally there is a dish that is quite good. Meals are buffet style for the most part but a resident can get a few things to orfer. On Sundays is a buffet brunch with made to order omelets, smoked salmon, quiche, made to order waffles... There is a gym, fitness classes, line dancing, a heated pool with aerobics classes M-F. Halls (which are quite long) are always clean. Grounds are well kept. There are numerous cottages with garages on the property. I think perhaps about 100. There are emergency pull cords in every room and an "I'm alive" button that needs to be pushed every morning. I have 2 cats ( the limit) and one pulled a cord one night and response was quick ( I think. I was asleep). I've only seen small dogs and there is a small fenced in "park" for them. There are 4 buildings, 2 of which are independent living. One is assisted, memory care is someplace and skilled nursing is in building 3. Lobby is clean and staffed with concierge and security. The residents are, for the most part, connected to the military in some way and there seems to be a number of missionaries. When I first got here, one man said,"welcome back to high school!" There are cliques but I think friendly. Another woman welcomed me saying the 2 things I would ask people I met were "where do you come from? " and " remind me of your name again." I'm here because this place ticked all my boxes but one: garage.

Dad liked the food but many residents expressed their interest in leaving the facility and we're not happy. Room was nice and good size.

Staff are very friendly and engaged, taking an interest to personally know the residents. Activities seem varied with a lot of areas to gather. Cleanliness is very high. Food is OK. It offers great amenities for a reasonable price.

My father was happy there. They cared about him but the other residents were really lovely and he loved being in their company. I would recommend to others. It's clean. Staff is kind and caring. He loved the food. He really enjoyed the other residents. He wished it had a better outside area where they could get outside and visit in the fresh air. A patio off his room or off the dining room would've been nice. All in all, the social part was so important.

Most everything is great. My brother complains sometimes about there are not as many shared experiences or field trips, if you will, that they all do together. However, he is very social. We offered to move him to [community removed] and he said he had rather stay where he is. His apartment is very nice and spacious.

Overall, very pleased with this facility. The staff is not overly communicative when an issue occurs, but I think mainly because they are understaffed Mom is happy here and that is most important. Do not have a potential resident move in on a Friday, the main staff is off on weekends.

They are all very helpful and work with the Resident's family to ensure everything is going well.

I'm pleased with the care they provide. I would recommend to others.

It's been good.

Admin appeared to be new at the time. Correcting charges took time to make adjustments. Food, I ate there twice. Activities, there were activities going on, but mom did not really participate in. Value, tough to say, they're all expensive, but we were offered the spend down to Medicaid which would have been a life line had she lived longer.

Staff are generally great nice and caring. One issue is being fully staffed, never fully staffed. But most people have been there for awhile and are good at their job. Not enough staff can cause delays in some care activities. The facility is really nice. Pretty property. They have a covered rooftop patio and use it for events when the weather is nice. Happy Hour every Thursday. Live music is popular. The decorate for every holiday. There have been ongoing issues with food preparation and quality. The rooms are small and nothing is new. But common areas are nice. Housekeeping does a good job. They are a licensed facility for assisted living and memory care. Transportation is available and reliable for appointments as well as group activities. Aside from the ongoing dining room issues the quality of life for residents is good.

Value for the money (the food options and quality - not good). Overall, Brookdale was kind. What stood out for me was when my mom had her stroke back in [fee removed] he staff the nursing people and the people in the front office they collaborated and tried to help, especially could with idea ideas for how they could support us as a family. That's what's done out their kindness and sincerity the area that I think definitely needs improvement is their culinary the selection of foods the quality of foods I didn't see where the food that was presented was healthy. The only reason why I know is I would call him and FaceTime him and at times he would be at dinner and he would show me his plate.
