Disappointing

I would tell others that the directors that I dealt with were very good, but none of the 2 caregivers that they sent were reliable. It was all promise and not performance. They did not show up, they were calling at the last minute why they couldn't make it, and the quality was just not there. I would not recommend them.

Unprofessional and inconsistent

It was hard to set up something with them a lot of times. Or you'd have it set up and someone would suddenly not show up or go on vacation. Even the person who was in charge of Talem wasn't readily available to discuss any issues we were having. We ended up realizing we were wasting our time with them, so we ended up not using them anymore. They were very inconsistent. We couldn't really get a consistent caregiver for my loved one. They were always bringing in more people. There was one we kind of liked, but she was always going on vacation And then they'd send someone else that day. I was very unhappy with them overall.

Our family review

We had issues with the care givers, the first person we dealt with was lovely, but it was their first day on the job, brand new and not experience at all which we felt was a little inappropriate for our situation. They also did not take any initiative unless they had a list of things written out for them to do, so we did not feel we got our money's worth.

Beware

When it comes to the care givers they provided it varied, some were very good and some were not so good. There were some aspects of the company we can rate well and other we cannot. Over the course of about 6 months, we had two care givers sleeping on the job, and one never show up. We were never notified as to why and never received and apology.

[name removed], a caregiver, was wonderful. After one week of their help though they sent new people who didn’t seem happy to help and it was frustrating to retrain. There was a no show and three times someone was late with no phone call. After speaking with the CEO about needing to be informed on changes a new caregiver, different from the one promised, came to our house early. I am frustrated and more stressed. I feel like it was a bait and switch. They want you to like them so they send the best and then change it up.

Homewatch is unacceptable

We’ve been using homewatch for couple of years for my Dad. We had one person who basically sat and watched tv with him but my mom liked a lot. During COVID that person never wore a mask and then got a new job. We tried to hire additional help during the whole spring but no one would call back or eventually they couldn’t fill the shifts. They hired a new person for the shifts we had who never showed up and was fired or quit. They hired someone who was great for two of the original three shifts. Mind you this whole time we’d needed more shifts due to significant decline and had been attempting to get them to fill more shifts but we’d gone down instead. My dad started getting hospice at home and we again told them we needed more shifts. I was frustrated with my mom about not being clear with them but later realized it wasn’t my mom. He became bed ridden and went to respite through hospice. I sat with my mom where she had a 15-20 minute conversation listing the shifts we needed filled, when he was coming home and what we needed done on Tuesday. Meanwhile we are dealing with the lawyer, I went to see a home, respite dropped me dad on his head, the usual. Friday he’s coming home and I realize we have no confirmation that we do or do not have care. My mom calls at noon. We get no call back. I call at 4:45 Friday and the scheduler claims she doesn’t know we need care (she’s leaving and my mom spoke to the new person). She puts me on speaker phone with the owner who starts to say that they have lots of ways to work with people who needs more care and I interrupt to tell her we spoke at length about this but she angrily interrupts me to ask if she can speak and tells me they record the calls. A clear threat. I let her speak for a while let her finish, don’t speak at all and then ask for permission to speak. I then ask her to go back and listen to the call and ask her if we’d given her a clear list of multiple shifts that we needed filled on Tuesday and they never called back would that be ok? And she said it would be completely unacceptable. Homewatch by their own admission is completely unacceptable.

Unreliable Caregivers

I was initially happy with Senior Helpers. But be warned, they hire people who quit with no notice. Happened twice in 4 months! The first one didn’t show up one day and I didn’t know until that evening - my elderly mom had sat alone all day getting no medication and no lunch. The second one informed me by text at 10PM that had been her “last day”, with no explanation. Now I’m scrambling to find a new agency for immediate help. Reliability is essential in a caregiver. (My mom is a nice lady, cooperative and quiet, sleeps most of the day so she wasn’t the issue) For the high price they charge, I expected more professionalism from Senior Helpers.

We used Amada to provide an aid for my mom 3 hours at night and for 6 hours on Sundays. It cost $75 a day to have aids stay with my mother for 3 hours. What we found was that we were paying for an aid to sit on a couch and talk with our mother- not much support with making sure my mother ate, took meds, etc. One aid was not even sure what meds she needed to take at night. We wanted an aid that would make sure she was fed and took meds. One aid actually wrapped up some pizza in tin foil and put it in her purse. We provided the pizza- my mom offered her some and she wrapped it up. So we realized the aids were not able to provide the support our mom needed.

terrible service.

First time using a care-giving company. homewatch was recommended. this company is so inconsistent. different people all the time so confused my father. we were not able to get a relationship with someone so he could feel safe. finally they gave us this wonderful young lady who the last 6 months we have 4 days a week but then it is a toss up the rest of the week. The owner has been very rude when we call to try to fix issues. The secretary well she is worse. her tone of voice and how she makes you feel like it is your problem not their inconsistency. I would not recommend if you want to build a relationship with your care giver because you will not get the same one more than 2 times a week if lucky. they have huge turn over because they pay their employees nothing for all the hard work they do. by all means give them a try but personally for me if i knew how this company was going to treat my father months ago i would have saves my money and spent double to a care giver who really cared with compassion.

Not worth the high price

We've used various home care services as Mom has been in and out of the hospital. This company does fine, but it's not any better than the alternative companies who charge much, much less per hours. This company charges $26+ per hour for average care.

We received excellent in home care for my Mom....four consecutive Fridays. The woman who came into my Mom’s home quit abruptly and Friends of the Family informed us that they had NO ONE else available to take care of Mom. There was not a lot of need for in home caregivers in Monroe County, but my Mom lived in a Senior Community of 50 condos. No need!? For this reason, I would NOT recommend Friends of the Family. AND, my Mom still believes that she did something wrong to lose [name removed].

Avoid using this agency

RAH was recommended by our hospice. The nurses/CNAs that provided services were excellent. However, I was very disappointed three of my requests for assistance were not met because staff was not available to provide respite care. After calling on a Wednesday to request care for my mother the following Monday so I could attend a meeting and shop for groceries from 1:00-4:00, I had not heard from RAH. I called them on Monday morning re the status and was told they were still trying to find someone. At 1:01 I received a call informing me no one could be found. What's even worse: this was the third time RAH abandoned me. Two other times: "I'm sorry. We do not have anyone that can come." On one occasion, the nurse never showed up. A substitute came 5 hours later. Staff is supposed to use our home phone to check in, but she had a RAH administrator check her in 5-10 min. before she entered our home. He called and told me to look for her pulling in the driveway. I waited and waited and almost called back, thinking she was lost. When her shift was over, she did not use our phone but opted to go to her car and call the administrator to check her out. Being a caregiver is a stressful experience, and RAH greatly increased the stress by not following through with their commitments. I would have given one star, but the workers who came provided wonderful care.

When [Removed] came out to meet with us in October 2017, we were very impressed. He was professional, thorough, and very pleasant.. We didn’t need any services until January 2018. I called 24 hour care on a Monday to arrange a caregiver to take my 90 year old Mom to a radiology appointment on Friday. I was told that someone would call my mom with details. I live in Arizona, Mom lives in San Diego so I can’t get her to her appointments. Anyway, I called on Wednesday to inquire on mom’s ride. I was told that they were having difficulty finding a caregiver to drive out to my mom’s even though [Removed] assured me there would be no problem with the distance. On Thursday, I called again to check on mom’s Friday ride. Again, I was told that they were still looking for someone to take her. By Thursday afternoon, I called 24 hour care and told them to forget it and I cancelled my mom’s appointment. I am in the process of finding another company.

A very trying experience...

We hired this company to provide 24 hour care to my 90 yo father and assist my 89 yo mother with light housekeeping as needed. We were led to believe this would eventually happen. Our $6700 down payment was based on this coverage. We were dissatisfied for the following reasons. 1. Of the 49 days, we only had 10 days of 24 hours coverage 2. My mother frequently received phone calls from the agency in their attempts to contact their caregivers. She found this upsetting. 3. Often the agency would schedule a new caregiver to start at 11pm necessitating my elderly mother to stay awake and answer the door for a total stranger as we had no 3-11 coverage. 4. We weren't always satisfied with our caregivers , however, the company was understanding when we asked them not to return. 5. I received so many phone calls from the agency with call offs, changes and 1-2 day at a time scheduling that I felt like an employee myself. We did have several caregivers who were very good with my father for which we were very greatful. Had we known they would not be able to provide the care they promised, we may have opted for another agency.

A Disaster

We used 24 Hr HomeCare's services for three weeks, and it was a disaster. I indicated very specific needs for my loved one including the ability to transfer my loved one and knowledge of Hoyer Lifts. About 80% of the people they sent over were not up to snuff. Two people that came were excellent, but the others were not trained properly for our needs. I had to call paramedics seven times in the three weeks we used 24 hr, and I called the company many times to reiterate our needs, but nothing changed.
