Brookdale Colonial Heights is a very nice place. It's small and personal and meets mom's needs. Good staff and workers. Everyone has made mom feel at home and welcomed. They have been very helpful. The nurses are very understanding

Overall - it was great. The management team (name removed and our sales contact Lori, who is no longer there) made this a great experience for us. My only complaint is staffing shortages sometimes made meal times slow and responsiveness slow, but everyone was so friendly, kind and caring. I am happy we picked Brookdale. On friendliness of staff - I gave 3.5 because of some issues my dad had with some pushy staff members but my sense is that was not the norm there and may have been more a personality conflict . Overall our families experience was good and I would recommend. Moving someone you love into an assisted living is not easy, and while no place is perfect, Brookdale was there for me and my family at one of the most difficult times. Barbara and Lori were our Angels on earth helping make the transition as smooth as possible. Also when my dad passed, they were kind, compassionate and helped me through the initial process. I'm so thankful I called a place for mom and found Brookdale.

It's a great place for my mom. We picked this community over other places, because it was smaller than most.

Brookdale Mandarin has been a wonderful place for my mom. The staff have been working hard on making improvements to be even better! We chose this facility initially because of the price for basic living , the large one bedroom option and Medicaid is accepted for the health care portion.

I would recommend to others. No facility is perfect but I'm very pleased overall. Management and health and wellness director very responsive to our needs.

Wonderful staff, meal and snacks are tasty, they engage my mom in activities she enjoys. I like being able to visit my mom and see her thrive. She enjoys being with other residents, having coffee and chatting the day away.

Food is average- but older people might like it better than I do. I like "younger/fresher/lighter" food I think my apartment is large for a one bedroom. Studios are small and would drive me insane. Amenities only ok.

Brookdale staff is outstanding and the recruitment is true to the tee.several mistakes were made during the process some information that should have been shared was left out and the promised monthly amount was above the contracted amount.The nurse was superb . Due to oxygen levels required there Dad was sent out many times and he went through a depression so we checked him out and he refused to return. He continued to be billed after coming home and the AcH process had to be blocked. Beautiful place minor problems.

Brookdale has very caring staff. They listen when we have concerns and do their best to correct issues. Communication with us is good if mom falls or shows a medical change. They make sure to call us and keep us informed. Our family member seems happy there. The staff are very patient with the resident's. The place is clean. Downside. Mom has had a couple falls. They have quickly called us to ask If we wanted her sent to the hospital to be checked out. If mom refuses her shower they do not try very hard to ensure she gets one. Shower pressure not good. Could use some improvement. No place is perfect but mom seems happy. She gets along great with staff.

Most individuals in memory care at Brookdale show a gentleness toward the patients. They serve the meals in a respectful manner and seek to make it an enjoyable experience. Meal time is important for it brings everyone together and there can be some communication that goes on. Although many patients sleep a lot, it would be good to have designated activities in the morning and afternoon. There hasn’t been much thus far. Will see with the new Activities Director. Would be nice to show more wholesome tv programs & not just Netflix.

From the moment my dad arrived, the staff welcomed him with open arms, treating him not just as a resident but as a cherished member of their community. This has been more than just a place of care; it has become a home away from home for him and a place of comfort for our entire family. The level of care and compassion that each member of the staff shows daily is truly remarkable. They go above and beyond to ensure that not only my dad’s physical needs are met, but that he feels genuinely loved and cared for. It’s evident in the small gestures—a warm smile, a gentle touch, a kind word—that their work is more than a job; it’s a calling. They’ve taken the time to get to know him as a person, learning about his preferences, his stories, and what makes him happy. This personalized approach has made all the difference in his well-being and happiness.

We enjoyed our time there. We would definitely recommend the organization to anyone who asked. Staff were friendly and made my dad feel at home. Meals were good. I liked the fact the residents go to a dining room to eat rather than alone in their rooms. Grounds were beautiful, courtyard was fantastic.

We chose Brookdale because it seemed more open and bright. Also, the people we saw, when we visited seemed to be more aware and involved. Other than [name removed] not being a big fan of the food, she is happy with everything else. I think it is great for her. She is active and involved. I would be afraid that someplace else might allow her to sit and do nothing.

I picked this community because, It had a yard for my dogs and an opening to the outside. It's a nice place to live.

The caregivers for mom are exceptional! Facility-Clean Front desk lady [name removed]-so wonderful The Caregivers of Mom are beyond exceptional. Very happy with the choice.

This place is a very clean place and the CNA’s do a great job! They work very hard to keep the place going and take care of the residents. The ladies in the dining hall work very to keep it clean and inviting! They food is very good if you want to enjoy eating with your loved one! I highly recommend this place very comfortable and everyone is very friendly!

Very friendly and caring. Full time nursing with meds. Nice restaurant for meals and good activities. Will be changing my primary as not as pleased with the one assigned by facility. Right across from hospital and most doctors. A huge bonus as my dad is 91.

Meals/dining has been 5, but our chef just took anew job so who knows. Activities have been great. Again our director just left and we don't know what the new person has in store. The property was well maintained outside and gave a good impression. The interior was clean but the furniture was old and well worn. The residents were promised an interior remodel within a few months with new furniture and carpeting. The remodel never happened and I was told that promise had been made for a couple of years. The grounds have not been maintained at all since last fall. They let the lawns go without water until July and then hired a company to mow only. They finally fixed the irrigation and started to water the lawns in late July. It's embarrassing to have friends come here. Everything is shabby.

They have more long-term stability in management than is typical for many competitors. My loved one wouldn't have participated in anything per his nature. But seeing the lobby taken over for bingo instead of doing it in an activity room cast an old-folks-home vibe that he resented.
