Brookdale

I toured this community. The staff were nice and were able to answer my questions. I like that the community was clean. I was not able to see the menu for the meals. Activities are available. Families might want to tour this community to see if there loved would be comfortable here.

My mother is adjusting well since her move into this community. She is a lot more active now as she is playing bingo and doing a lot better as far as getting involved. The staff has been amazing, very helpful and welcoming. The food is the only small issue we have had as there are several items on the menu each day that my mother cannot eat due to her medication. The residents have met with the staff though and I believe this is being addressed. She initially required additional Personal Care but that has been scaled back with her continued rehabilitation process. She's doing more on her own and we couldn't be happier.

The staff were all very friendly and answered any questions we had about the facility. We felt that it would be a secure and pleasant place for our family member to live.

The staff are always very pleasant and willing to help with any questions that I have. When I call to check on my Mom, they always do it right away and let me know how she is doing.

I really liked the Brookdale Sugar Land. The community is beautiful and well maintained. The staff is very friendly and answered all of my questions. The tour went smooth. Every room in this place was clean.

My loved one has really been pleased with the food they provide at this community. They offer a large range of options for the residents as well as fresh fruit and different snacks throughout the day. The program director has really been great at encouraging my dad to get involved in different activities as well as involving the family as much as possible. I am very pleased with everything this placed has provided for my father and would defiantly recommend them.

Staff and facility seem to be first rate. Although my mother-in-law has only been there 3 days she seems to like the food and activities.

I looked throughout San Antonio at 8 different facilities for my mom. I kept going back to Brookdale Hollywood Park because the staff was incredible and inviting, more like family. It was also visible just how much they cared about the people that live there. The variety of meal choices per meal ensures that mom would have something she liked every day. The activities selection was better than offered at most places. All in all, I don't think I could have found anything better!

My mother has been at Brookdale for only two weeks but to date the facility is everything they claim to be regarding quality of care and family atmosphere. I am happy she is here but more importantly mom is beginning to accept and enjoy Brookdale as her new home.

I found the Brookdale Liverpool to be a very clean and beautiful place. I was impressed with the menu for the meals as they include desert in every meal. The staff were very friendly.

I am happy with the care that my mom is receiving here. The staff is caring and wonderful. The community is very clean and well taken care of. The food can use a little improvements. They do offer activities. I recommend the great care here for other families.

My father is adjusting pretty well to this community. It is a nice place, and we are pleased with his move here. They have a good staff. The community is well maintained. Everything is nice and clean. We know he is being cared for well and he is in good hands. He is safe, and so far everything has worked out well. I would recommend this community, it is a good place.

The food is not bad, however I think they could improve the process of letting residents know there are other options available. The staff are attentive. Grandma is still adjusting to living at the community. They have plenty of activities and the community is clean.

I took a tour of this community for my parents. The community was small and did not offer what we were looking for at the time. The staff did answer our questions. A nice community over all.

My Mother-In-Law has lived here for the past 6 weeks and so far I am very favorably impressed. This is a second try for us, as the facility she was in before was not a good fit. When she first came to Brookdale Oak Hollow, her condition had deteriorated drastically in the other facility and she was heavily medicated. After settling in here, her health has improved as well as her cognition, and her need for drugs has been reduced enough for her to regain some of her personality. I think the secret at Brookdale is the caring attitude of the whole staff, and the excellent training everyone has in dealing with memory loss patients and dementia. I've spent a lot of time visiting in the past month and I really like the compassion, patience and level of knowledge that is obvious in the way the residents are treated. All employees, from the executive director and the management, to the nursing staff, to the food staff, to the cleaning staff and the activities director, are personally involved with every single resident - knowing their names, family members and life history. I was amazed at how they meet all their "Brookdale Family" on their own terms, protect their dignity and don't allow anyone in their care to lose their humanity. Everyone is important here. The folks here have a policy of educating the families as well as the employees. There are support meetings and educational programs that help loved ones hold on to as much of the relationship as possible for as long as possible. Just from being here for 2 weeks, my husband and I gained communication skills that allowed us to have some meaningful visits with Mom. We really appreciated that. One thing that is so constructive is that all bedroom doors remain locked at all times and only the designated family members and staff have keys for entering the private space of the residents. This has several good effects - the first of which is the protection of each resident's privacy and and the protection of their belongings. The second benefit is that every morning, each resident is dressed and brought our of their rooms to the dining hall for breakfast, and for the rest of the day, they are encouraged to stay in the public areas where they mingle and socialize, participate in various activities and in general are a part of the community here. During the day, all residents are in full view of the staff during their waking hours, providing protection for their privacy and preventing the isolation that sometimes occurs in other assisted living environments. When needed, the staff are careful to take an ailing resident to their room for quiet and rest, but for the most part everyone is encouraged to engage in life. This creates a better environment for everyone. One side effect of this policy is that visiting family members not only get to visit their loved ones in a more engaged way, but they also gradually get to know the names and stories of the other residents and their families. This is a different kind of facility and I like it very much. A lot of thought has gone in to the design of the building and the layout encourages residents to exercise, and promotes a feeling of freedom. They subtly make sure the premises are safe and that no one gets in or out without being observed, however within this safe bubble, there is an impression of largeness, long, long corridors that are designed in a circuit, and doors that open to a safe, and enclosed outdoor atrium. There is nothing claustrophobic here and this sense of freedom is huge for people who are experiencing the fear of losing their bearings. This is one of the most well thought out facilities I have ever seen. Nothing is perfect and there are a few things that I'd like to see improved. There is some great research being done on the effects of diet on dementia, and I'd love to see their food program become as forward thinking as their behavioral and educational policies. Still, the food here is better than most institutional food programs and Mom seems to like her meals and usually eats everything that is served. There are 3 meals per day and 2 snacks. Everyone eats together. Honestly, on the surface, Brookdale doesn't look any different from other assisted living facilities. It is not the look of the place that makes it so different, but it is the way things are done here that make this a dignified place to come when a person needs more help than can be had at home. I think you could go a long, long way and spend a lot more money and not get this level of education, care and compassion. Mom's family members have all noticed a significant improvement in her overall well being since coming to Brookdale. When my time comes, I want to come here myself.

My mother-in-law has lived at Brookdale for 4 years now so to make the decision to move my mother there was a very easy one. I know both my mother and mother-in-law are happy to see other people their age and interact with them is like high school for them.

It was time for our Father to move out of his home. A few years ago , we had our Father stay at Brookdale for a short term rehab over the winter months due to his hip replacement. He was well cared for, had three meals a day and we knew he was in safe care. When it came time for our Father to sell his home, we did check other facilities but came back to Brookdale. He now has a one bedroom apartment and can continue to live independently, Join in for breakfast and dinners , make new friends and in a beautiful atmosphere. With any transition for the elderly, change can be challenging. Over time , our Father is joining in the community events. We feel very comfortable with our family decision.

This community would be our first choice if mom decides to move into a community. The staff were nice and the community seemed clean. They have kitchenettes in the apartments. This community is close to a town that you are able to walk around.

Mom is doing pretty well at Brookdale. The staff check in on her and are nice. She likes the food , however they do serve larger portions than she likes. They offer daily activities including singalongs. The community and her room are nice.

The Brookdale Chenal Heights was a nice clean community. They had resident parking available and onsite activities for the residents. The tour guide was smart he answered all of my questions and concerns. I liked the set up of this residence. Meal plans and activities are offered.
