Brookdale

Love the way A Place for Mon networks. If it had not been for the kindness and the follow-up from the different communties, I don't know where my beloved uncle would be today. He is really very pleased with everything.

The food was amazing! The chef was awesome. When you walk into Brookdale - it’s a cluster of people in the main TV room. It just looked a little bit crowded. It might a little overwhelming. Cindy is an awesome nurse though. If I could have kept anything from this community it would have been the chef and Cindy.

We are fairly pleased, the staff is very attentive and knowledgeable. They are focused on her needs and are aware of the path of Alzheimer's . It's clean, and the staff is friendly. There is a good value. They are responsive to needs or requests.

I couldn't be more pleased with this place, they've been absolutely wonderful! I'd give them a 6 out of 5 if I could! They're a caring, warm, friendly group of people, and they really seem to care about their residents. I helped a good friend search for this place, and she has been so much happier since moving in!

Each community has its own environment so that’s what you really want to look – for a community that fits you – that you’re more comfortable. It’s a very clean and friendly community. He’s happy there and that’s what’s most important.

My loved one was here for a few months before her increasing care needs necessitated a move, but during her time here I thought they did an excellent job! Everything they provided seemed very high quality. It was a nice looking place, the staff were friendly, and the care they provided was good!

They have done an excellent job. They are super friendly. They are clean, they are responsive to concerns or needs. They were the best value out of all the places we saw. We were concerned about the need to move her to other places as her needs increase. We were pleased that they have a track record of keeping people as long as possible.

I am so happy with the care and support I received at thiis difficult time by allnof the staff at Clare Brudge!

So far we are very happy with the experience. The place before Emeritus cost more money and the food was horrible. All of the help knows your first name. The help – every single person we’ve accounted has been above board as far as being nice goes. I’ve never seen anyone talk down to anyone. I don’t see anyone who is unhappy. The chef is fabulous. Some of the activities could be improved, but the activities girl is nice and just works her little head off and she’s always nice to everyone.

I want to rate this community fives all the way. They are very personable and attentive and have a real personal interest my mom. They showed personal knowledge and investment in her. I just can’t say enough nice things about this community.

I rated this community a five - the quality of service and things that they do. The activities are really awesome. There are exercise classes, movie nights, and sing alongs. Just lots of things going on. My loved one has nothing bad to stay about the food and I’ve always been able to find enough parking. It’s a very clean community.

What impressed me was how engaged the residents were (my visit was just after the monthly 'Chat with John' - the resident's monthly 'town hall' meeting with the Executive Director), how engaged the staff I encountered during my visit were with the residents, and, frankly, the building itself. I also found the apartments quite spacious (even the studios) and the ones we visited all were very homey. I liked the fact that they had on site PT and OT therapy beyond just the 'work out room'. Now, I only visited Hallmark because I was just going to 'check it off my list'. I really didn't think it would be a place I would seriously consider. The price list I got from Devonshire of Lisle (the Brookdale community) had a fee for every little thing (escort to dining room, transportation to Dr. appointments, medication management, bathing assistance, laundry, etc.) and I pretty much figured we couldn't afford a Brookdale community based on that info. But the price list I was sent must have been for Independent Living and not Assisted Living, and I was remarkably surprised at the prices I was given at The Hallmark of Creve Coeur for Assisted Living. The price was $4750 for a studio (and all studios regardless of floor plan is the same price - and priced by month not by day) and seems to be all inclusive - personalize plan, medication management, everything. Dawn (my guide) and I talked quite a bit about the cost and what it covered, and it appears that the only 'extra' expenses that are not covered are phone, 'groceries', and of course insurance and prescriptions. This community seems much more affordable - and yet, the whole facility felt much more 'luxurious' and more high end than Sunrise. What I'm not sure about is the more rigid dining times (and the residents have instituted a dress code for the Independent Living Dining room!) - I don't know if Mom would 'conform' (she has always been a non-conformist at heart!). I didn't get a real straight answer on the staff to resident ratio (I got a 'depends on' answer), and I forgot to inquire about the policy for ongoing staff training, and I forgot to ask about whether there were dedicated CNAs for the residents or if they changed from day to day. The Hallmark is very definitely a 'high end' residence and I don't know if mom would be comfortable in such a'fancy' place - but even so, it still felt very welcoming and homey. (Mom could, of course, surprise me and be looking for just such a residence!) I liked The Hallmark very much and still think it has possibilities.

It is such a great place! We appreciate everything they do for my loved one! He says the great food is very good. We haven’t had any issues with the laundry or with finding a place to park. The best thing is the help they’ve been able to give us. It’s just been great!

Loved this place - from the minute you walk in, both the staff & the residents make you feel like family. The apartments are spotless, as are the grounds & common areas. It is very expensive, though, & unfortunately out of our price range.

They just got a new activity directory so I’m going to give them a five for that. It’s just a very homey feeling place. Where everyone is friendly and the residents seem happy. I had a couple sweet potato fries that were really yummy.

This was my first choice, I loved the people here. It really felt like a resort. I liked the open dining area. I think it was a little too large for my mother. I think that it would have been a difficult walk to get to the dining area for her. It was more expensive than another community we were considering.

They community is kept very clean. The friendliness of the staff would be a five plus. I am pleased with the care that they give, it's worth the price, I would say they are a good value. They are working on expanding the activities, they are constantly working on them based on interest. The major reason we picked this community is that they had good security, a lock down area. They have independent living too, so I can be in the same community, hopefully that will only take a couple of more weeks.

My Mom has lived at The Heritage since 2001 and loves it. The staff are wonderful and it brings me great comfort to know that when I am out of town there are always people who are paying attention to how she is doing. The Physical Therapy group (including occupational and speech therapy) in particular are absolutely amazing! The staff AND the residents have a reputation as being one of the friendliest places in Raleigh. The food is great (with a lot of choices on the menu) and while they provide breakfast and dinner, and on Sunday there's a terrific brunch buffet, there is lunch available for purchase at the café for those who are interested. There are many different activities ranging from bingo to Tai Chi to bridge, a Heritage Chorus, and a "Jeopardy!" team. There are frequent entertainment programs, dances and Friday "mix and mingle" activities. In addition, The Heritage participates in a program called "Wish of A Lifetime" that is like "Make a Wish" for kids. It's across all of the Brookdale communities throughout the country, but several residents at the Heritage of Raleigh have had their wishes fulfilled. My Mom's wish was one of the wishes granted this year. For her it was a life-changing experience. For those looking for a place for one or both parents, I recommend the Heritage unless your parent has cognitive impairment or requires significant healthcare. The focus here is on independent living. Altho' healthcare and activities-of-daily-living assistance is available, this is not really an assisted living facility nor a skilled nursing care facility.
