We did have lunch at Carriage Inn and the food was average, I could see someone getting tired of it quickly. We were however impressed with the staff they were nice and friendly. The cleaning lady was nice and even the limo driver who was the first one we say, was happy, smiling and was excellent in that regard. This just wasn't quite as luxuirious however as another community we've visited.

Positives: friendly, cozy entrance and sitting area with porch off back side with cover and places to sit and green space. 'Luby's' like dining area with round tables and rolling chairs; buffet and menu ordering with special requests possible. Free round the clock snacks including cereals, fruit, milk fridge and soft serve ice cream with chocolate sauce. various puzzle tables, bridge games going, bingo, wii bowling, outings to walmart and grocery store, day trips and over night trips to casinos & other places. Apartment divided into 3 spaces plus full bath with walk in shower. Pets allowed. On site home health service. Weekly house cleaning, hair salon on site. Negatives: Very dark. Hallways dark, group areas in each hallway dark with outdated and cheap decorations. Dining area closed in and dark, buffet sneeze guard too high and frankly, useless. Library extremely limited. Media room not very comfortable. Not much in the way of outside sitting areas, only one. Apartments include a small oven and stove, for us a negative. Much more expensive than Paradise Springs and the latter is much more up to date and resident focused.

The staff was great, but looking at the whole thing, they were way too nursing homey. Like a hospital. It was set up like a college apartment. It didn't have the pizzazz and style of the Watercrest, although it was cheaper.

The staff made sure they gave my loved one and I a warm welcome upon arrival and gave us a very detailed tour of there community. The only complaint my parents had was how far the walk was from there apartment building to the dinning room. It was just not reasonable to do three times a day.

Staff is amazing But admin has lost their ability to care

My last two reviews had been five stars BUT things changed when my mother in law started to decline and they forced her to be in hospice in order to stay at Stoney Brook. I had actually recommended Stoney Brook to friends, but can no longer do that with good faith. Once she was in hospice the day to day staff were amazing for the most part but [name removed] behavior towards to my mother in law changed including placing her at a table by herself facing a door away from the dining hall because her table mates didn’t want her at their table anymore. [name removed] attitude became “I’m covered if the state comes in” very uncaring. My mother in law was improperly medicated. The decision was made by the med tec without consultation with the LVN ([name removed]). After my mother in law passed when we were turning in our key, instead of paying her condolences [name removed], actually came out her office to tell my husband the check for the unused rent we had would be issued in my dead MIL. Uncaring time & time again.

Memory Care needs serious help/oversight

My mother is currently resident of Stoney Brook in Hewitt memory care. We have watched memory care go steadily downhill. She is not closely monitored as needed for toileting issues. Family and daily sitter have found her in soiled clothes numerous times, along with continuous soiled bed linens that are not changed as needed. The memory care residents need better assistance with their daily meals. The best part of their meal is dessert. Also concerned about administering medications.

Do your research on this facility

The rooms are left unkept, beds not made, clothes not washed, hard to understand attendants and lots of other unacceptable things. I am moving my loved one out as soon as another room becomes available.

I was not really interested in Carriage Inn at Katy. The facility looked old and did not seem to be well cared for. We were looking for a place that was bright and cheerful and that was not the case here.

Not a good experience...

My husband was a resident here. They don't have enough staff scheduled and the care was inadequate. If they had hoyer lift in the assisted living and they said they can't because of state regulations. Patients fall all the time. It's a very clean community overall but the housekeeping only comes once a week and they should come in more frequently. You can go there week after week and it's the same menu served. They only serve half sandwiches not whole sandwiches. They give a little 4oz glass of water or juice with a meal. I stay there over night with him so he does't fall. He fell one night and he got hematoma on his backside. The staff in memory ward is excellent. There are only two CNAs in that area and they bath him three days a week. They are just wonderful. The problem is two people can't handle that many residents.

Terrible Experience

My dad loved playing bingo and getting involved in games. They had their own money called Stoney Brook Bucks and you could buy things with that money at the auctions. I thought that was a really neat idea. They would hold an auction the end of the month. Other than that, they were sour to my dad. They talked down to him like he was a kid, and they even tried to do that to me. I would not refer anyone there ever. It is so beautiful it is such a shame that it is run like it is. The two directors are just downright wrong and foul. They treat staff and residents nasty. My dad was assaulted there by another resident twice, and they didn't even report it, just told the two residents that they need to get along. I turned them in to the state. My dad is very verbal and they didn't like that about him. It is all about money and it is what it is. I was eventually able to talk someone above the directors that was very polite and helped us out and listened to us, and I really appreciated her. The place is beautiful, and within our price range, but the directors are so horrible it is not worth it. We moved him out.

A total waste of my time! The facility's appearance looked nice and was in a convenient location. If I had known no ground-floor units were available at this time, I would not have scheduled a tour. I did not meet with any of the care staff members! Felt high-pressure sales tactics. I observed that the residents didn't look well cared for, there were housekeeping problems in many areas, and I witnessed staffing issues in responding to residents' care needs.

Would never recommend...poor management, frequent staff turnaround, under staffed, and lack of care

I would never recommend anyone living there. If I could rate the administrative staff as a negative number I would. I would have found it helpful to know (and now I do) that they are understaffed. They have residents there that need more care than they provide. The staff turnaround is frequent. When they give you a tour, they are very friendly and speak to the other residents, when in reality that is not the case.
