Avamere

I really hope that it could be possible that they made a specific area for smoking. At any entrance family and loved ones always have to pass by so much smoke and it's making my loved one sick. At the beginning of my loved ones stay no one greeted us or even gave us a welcome packet that explained rules, meal times, and other information we would have like to have received. The carpets are stained and need a good cleaning and in some floors like the 3rd floor by the elevator it always smell like urine. The staff is friendly and the meals are good that is the positive side to the community.

Brookdale South Hill offers activities at the community however my parents have not participated in them. The experience with the nursing staff has been a bit iffy since my parents are fairly independent and do not require some of the services offered. I quickly found out that the staff are quick to add charges but not quick to remove the charge when services aren't rendered such as medication management. We actually have a pill machine for my mother but on occasion she may need pain meds. This is not something that is consistent yet they have charged for the services even when not being utilized. My parents like the food even though they do not offer diverse options in my opinion. I would recommend the place but also suggest to stay involved in the care portion just to make sure things are in order.

I would tell others about this place. And my over all rating of it right now would be a 4. And it has friendly services.

This was less of an assisted living and more of a skilled nursing facility. It was okay but I thought it would not be good for my mother. I don’t think she would do well in a skilled nursing facility, just in general. It would be a deterrent to her health. There was nothing wrong with Avamere but I didn’t think it would be a good fit.

We put a deposit on a room and were told later that they had miscommunication internally and that room wasn't available. I understand they can't deny food, but they also always offer dessert to my diabetic father so he always says yes instead of only giving it to him if he requests it. His floor in his bathroom is always sticky and there are dust devils in his room. I've asked repeatedly about this and I'm always told they will clean it. We have struggled with the nurses regarding some of his care. It hasn't always started as soon as they say, like moisturizing his legs and feet ordered by his podiatrist. Also, he apparently ran out of medication one day and I was never contacted. They only work with one mobile nurse practitioner, and he doesn't accept my dad's insurance. Because of that, if my dad is ever sick or has a headache, they can't get a doctor's note in time to give him any OTC medicine and I don't trust leaving them with my dad given his mental state of forgetting things.

The diet they say they count accommodate everybody's diet and they do not diabetics just don't get to eat anything sweet that's all and me I have a rare disease and requires no gluten no eggs no fish and they don't even have a separate place for that fisher you know to do the fishing so there's things that cannot have and they I have a histamine problem also and that requires being allergic to a lot of citrus and I found out they were putting the watermelon in the citrus fruit in together and then picking the watermelon out when they I'd ask for watermelon so I quitting down there and they're cleaning is something to be desired they don't Dusty anything they wipe down the counter clean the bathroom sweep and mop the floor and that's it and change the bed.

My stepmom is getting settled and starting to accept that she needs to be there. Avamere's director was accommodating by writing up a special contract accepting my Stepmom for the amount of her social security only and allowing up to catch up on the balance once her house sells. My stepmom is always hungry though and I'm still providing food because what they serve is poor quality, texture is weird and tastes bad. I've seen the food they serve and I would have to agree. I've seen more appealing food at low budget "all you can eat buffets ". For the price they charge the food should be better. The extra expense of still buying groceries is wiping out my bank account! I gave them a 3 only because of the food situation. At these residents ages meal time is the highlight of their day. They are being let down. I've heard them complain yet when the cook came out to greet them and ask how they liked their meal, they were to nice to say it to his face. It's a generational thing.

If you're special diet like gluten-free and egg free It sucks And They don't always tell everybody the rules So you tend to get in trouble They knew I was coming into a hospice facility yesterday They called my niece at 11:30 last night wondering where I was at and I left at 6:00 So what took him that long to realize then I had checked out The gal at the desk even gave me paperwork to give to them over here And so on and so forth. The food is great if you can eat it. Teh activities director is really great. Activities are fantastic. A lot of the help is fantastic, it is just the administrative part that needs to be adjusted and the med techs. They kept trying to give me medicine that was not prescribed for me and they kept compensating my medicine when it came and I had to get the hospice nurse after him she said I will make her pills and she is capable of taking herself and they didn't even give me the dosing on the ones that I was taking they're only giving me one instead of two on one of the meds.

I think the best way to say it is my dad required more assistance than they were able to provide. The staff guaranteed us that they could do all of the care but it wasn't fulfilled. He went on hospice the 1st day there so that he would have more care. He probably should have gone to a higher level of care facility.

I did a lot of research prior to deciding on Avamere. The sales person is a very nice person, and was easy to work with prior to our deciding to go with Avamere. She was attentive and caring. Once we moved my father in law in that all changed. While he was originally in independent living, it quickly became apparent he was actually quite sick. Therefore he needed care which Avamere handled with little empathy. In fact on several occasions he and several members of his family would call front desk only to get voicemail. This would go on for at least 20 minutes! It was beyond anything I’ve ever experienced. I would call the sales directors cell and email her and she would not return my call. I do suspect they have to iron out some kinks as they take on more residents and eventually it can be a good place for ones loved one. However we didn’t have a good experience. My advice woukd be to look elsewhere if you need the assisted living services.

I am responding regarding my sisters care. She was in assisted living for 8 months. She declined and required more assistance. After 6 months she became unable to self medicate. Her daughter provided additional care daily but after 7 months it seemed she needed hospice care. We applied for hospice through the nursing director at Ovation and were told she did not qualify. We transferred her to another facility close by and she was immediately eligible for hospice. She died after 30 days in the new facility. Hospice was wonderful . I cant understand why she was not approved for hospice at Ovation. I am very disappointed at the way the nursing director handled her care in that regard. It was hard enough to lose my sister and be forced to move her for the last 30 days of her life. It is my impression that independent living is wonderful at Ovation. However I remain concerned about assisted living care there.

They are easy to work with and several go the extra mile for you. They could improve by frequently distributing an updated contact name and number list for who to contact for what.

They are really working on cleaning up the independent cottages (my dad lives in one of them). They are definitely in need of clean up and repair. Nice size for independent living. Food service is delivered daily to cottages. This took some time to get delivery time ironed out but new director was very responsive. My dad seldom if ever goes into main building. This is for assisted and memory care. However, he is welcome there any time. That building just did a big make over and it's very nice.

The facility is very new and quite nice. What I like most is the transportation. There is no additional charge for transportation wherever needed. But the staff response time could use some improvement.

Activities Director truly cares about the residents! She goes above and beyond to get people involved. I wish they had better security. My Dad was opening back doors to let visitors in so they could avoid signing in.

Get all numbers/payments written documented in a pre-contract or some other form you can refer back to. I think our sales mgr was new to the position and while she's a lovely person, I don't think she had her process in place when we were touring and discussing prices. Avamere was our choice anyway, but we were surprised that it was more expensive than we expected due to unexpected expenses because I had forgotten to write them down.

As you know, they're all pretty much, the same Ash specific prices there is some variance in the appearance, and the perhaps the food, I thought the Avamere was at the bottom of that particular range. It was cold and sterile.

The main reason we chose Avamere at Bethany was because of the fact that they offered all levels of care, independent living, assisted living and memory care as well. Based off of our experience so far, we think that they try the best that they can to do well with what they have.

The lady who led our tour at Avamere was just in a hurry. Which I understand happens. But we didn’t like that there was a stove in the room. That was just not a good situation for our loved one.

The weakest thing is the food and they are trying to work on it. Management is trying to improve things and I think they will get better.
