I find this to be a pleasant place for someone who is still independent but is also a safe place to live. The food is good and the staff is friendly. I like the fact that they have a method to check on the residents without making them feel like they are watched.

We appreciated our tour of the facility and the festive welcome get-together. We also enjoyed the great luncheon we were treated to. Everyone there, staff and residents, were all very pleasant and helpful with Q&A. Lovely facililty. We are doing research of retirement/assisted living facilities in Jacksonville. This is probably the A+ number 1 of the group.

The person who showed me around knew basically everything about the property and has been a longtime employee on this property. They have staff that’s been there for 25+ years. I met residents, nurses, well, everyone I saw briefly. The first time I was there was during lunch. It smelled good- my husband and I almost stayed. The facility was clean, the people were friendly, the residents were clean. It’s a bit older but so is my dad. The library/ puzzle room is great- I’m a book and puzzle person. The pool table room was nice, there are card tables, too. The pool is big and the deck area is nice and has grills. They’re pro family visits, aka I can hang out with my dad and my husband can hang out with us or make use of the amenities. I toured a good number of places in two cities and Brookdale South felt homey and comfortable(I was not expecting it). I cancelled my remaining tours and chose them. Their google rating was tanked by a fired employee and folks who didn’t read the contract

My Mom's room was unkept on several occasions; fences was on a wall outside a resident's room for 24 hours and when I called it to an employee's attention, she mentioned housekeeping, which is not available on a daily basis, it was only taken care of because I mentioned it being there 24 hours & it was a health issue; caregivers do the laundry so the service is not always completed when scheduled. I found my Mom is the TV room, which was freezing cold & Mom was freezing and had not been offered a blanket; On another day, Mom was in bed unable to fend for herself, and had not been offered water and was dehydrated; I asked an employee to assist Mom out of bed and she responded that she was not a caregiver today. Admin presents themselves as caring and truly is personable; however, complaints are not effectively addressed. food is tasty; however, Mom could not have dairy and the staff continually offered cheese, creamed soups, etc. Lina was the highlight of the residents' day. Mom's stay in memory care was very disappointing. Because of the high acuity of other residents, Mom did not Get the care she paid for. I was there almost every day and hired a sitter to ensure Mom's needs were met in my absence

The staff are very friendly and very engaged. The people that live there are very friendly and engaged. They have made repairs that were needed promptly.

This was a virtual tour with pictures and videos. I currently live in Texas and will schedule an In Person Tour in the future. The information I received from Brookdale was great and very informative. I will definitely tour this location this summer when I travel to Florida.

I would recommend it. Best for a really older person mid 80's and up. Most here navigate the halls on scooters which is dangerous (look out at the corners, these are speed demons) and if one is walking, a plain nuisance if you are stuck behind them. There are many here in nineties and over 100. I would recommend, only if they are extroverts or morning people. There is a "caste system" of those who rent villas on one side of the pond and those of us in the main building. They are very proud of their #1 JD Power rating but it's from 2023. There's a charge for things you don't expect, like going to a different apartment is [Name Removed]. The "two meals" is Breakfast and one other. Breakfast is 8-9 so you have to be a morning person to take advantage of it and it's low quality all carbs buffet.

Staff were very helpful and things seemed very organized. I liked how the facility was sectioned into the different levels of care but all under one roof. Residents were out and about mingling with each other. There appeared to be a strong sense of community.

The staff are very helpful, the food is good 95% of the time, the resources are top notch. Some issues with weekly cleaning but I believe we have that resolved.

A manager or the executive director never called or followed up regarding an investigation over this serious matter to explain or show concern. The home care staff who showed up to make sure she took her medication in Independent Living were late numerous times but we still had to pay and no apologies!

It is a beautiful place, well set up, and had plenty of variety both in meals, activities and services. We liked that the residents and staff were very familiar. Unfortunately, it was slightly above Mom's budget.

Increase staff in Assisted Living and Memory Care Have a specific staff member doing laundry in Memory Care rather than Caregivers taking time away from resident care in order to do laundry Employ managers who actually care about residents and their families Decrease acuity. Some Residents require more attention than staff can give due to being understaffed

They are a lovely place and my mom is thrilled to be there. Overall my mother is very satisfied with Brookdale Southside. The location is central to many shopping and grocery options. The food in the cafeteria is good and the grounds are well maintained. The staff is also friendly and helpful and the activities are plentiful.

This a great facility and staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable. I was impressed with the programs for residents and also just the general appearance and upkeep. I only wish they had multiple care levels (independent Living, Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing) all together. It was also easy to see that they generally care about their residents

What we like the most about Brookdale Southside are the conditions of the apartment, friendliness and staff. The staff helped me with setting up my mother a month before she moved in and answered my questions willingly.

Mom is slow to adjust to activities. Dining has been good except for 1 sour experience (poor service and cold food). Housekeeping has been an issue but I believe we have that figured out finally (issues with both mom and Brookdale). Still would highly recommend the facility. Everyone is positive and friendly, atmosphere is inviting, and I am hopeful mom will start to adjust more rapidly (but she's stubborn that way)!
